The Arch Manning hype ahead of the 2025 college football season is one of the most talked-about stories this year. Having just started in two games in his whole college career, he is already expected to win the Heisman Trophy this year and be the No.1 NFL Draft pick in 2026.
While many analysts, like Colin Cowherd, believe Arch Manning should declare for the NFL Draft after just starting for one year at Texas, the Longhorns QB’s grandad Archie made it clear that 2025 is not the last year Arch will stay with Steve Sarkisian’s program.
During an appearance at ESPN alongside Field Yates on Aug. 13, 2025, Mel Kiper Jr. said:
“Well, he’s really still to be determined, but we put him number one because we almost have to. It’s Arch Manning. We saw glimpses last year of the greatness he could provide that Texas offense, right? Running the football. He’s got great legs. Cooper Manning, his father, was a wide receiver till he got injured. He wasn’t a quarterback. So, he’s got speed, something Eli and Peyton didn’t have. Okay? So, he can run. He can elude. He showed that against Texas San Antonio. He showed it against Mississippi State.”
“What he was able to do throwing the football at all levels, the arm strength, the touch he showed. So, we’re looking ahead to what he could be, but we don’t know if he will develop into that is only has 95 career pass attempts. Think about that. We’re talking about a guy, number one quarterback consensus, 95 career pass attempts, right? Okay.”

Johnny Manziel Weighs In On Pressure Faced by Arch Manning
During an appearance on the Pat McAfee show on Thursday, Johnny Manziel was asked about the pressure on Arch Manning heading into the 2025 college football season.
Manziel shared that it’s not easy being the guy at the top, as everyone else is planning and scheming against you.
“So you’re getting everybody’s best shot. You’re starting off the season at the top of the board. You know who’s coming for the top of the board? Everybody below you.”
“I have high expectations. It’s tough to pick anybody that’s going to walk across the stage in New York in August,” he said. “It’s really hard. And it’s almost better to not be the guy with the best odds going into it, because I can look back throughout the years, the odds-on favorite going into the season really has never been the winner when it’s all said and done.”
Manziel further added that Arch has the opportunity to do great things due to Texas’ schedule, and he expects good things from him.
