$70M worth Bill Belichick opens up about using Patriots experience at UNC ahead of 2025 CFB season

One of the biggest stories of the offseason was the news that legendary New England patriots coach Bill Belichick signed with the North Carolina Tar Heels as their next head coach. Belichick, who is worth $70 million, coached at the NFL level for nearly 50 years. He has never coached at the college level until now.

There are some fans who might assume that because the NFL has higher-caliber players, coaching in college should be easier for Belichick, but that is not necessarily the case. College football is a different challenge, with other things, like recruitment, heavily influencing whether a coach is successful.

Despite that, Belichick can still bring a lot from his coaching days in the NFL to his players at UNC. On Wednesday, he appeared for an interview on the “ACC Network.” A clip from it was posted on the ACC Network X account. In it, Belichick opens up about using Patriots film as a tool for teaching his players how to play the game the right way.

“In all honesty, we’ve shown a lot of Patriots film, and a lot of great players in the NFL, but a lot of Patriots film on, here’s what we want you to do. Here’s how to do it,” Bill Belichick said. “Watch Brady, watch Edelman, watch Gronkowski, watch these guys do it because they were great at it.

“It’s actually been fun to go back and watch some of those guys and show them how good they were and why they were so good because the way they played, the technique, and how they understood the game.”

Bill Belichick Discusses How UNC Will Handle Revenue Sharing

Following the approval of the House vs. NCAA settlement, schools are now able to pay up to $20.5 million to players directly each season. Belichick discussed how UNC will approach this new system while speaking with reporters on Wednesday.

Belichick admitted that it is more of a long-term question. He kept his answers general, but admitted that he would not want to lose a good player over a few thousand dollars if they were slightly over budget. He said that he is on the same page with general manager Michael Lombardi.
