Sarah Strong’s Mom Allison Cherishes Special Memories With Ex UConn Star Paige Bueckers: “Lord Have Mercy”

UConn Huskies small forward Sarah Strong won the national championship last season with Paige Bueckers, who was subsequently drafted by the Dallas Wings as the No. 1 pick in this year’s WNBA draft.

On Wednesday, Strong’s mother, Allison Feasture, recalled the emotional Elite Eight win from last season. UConn’s official Instagram account posted photos from their win against the USC Trojans in the Elite Eight Fixture, which includes all the teammates posing with the Spokane Regional trophy.

“some of our best Elite Eight photos 📸”, the post was captioned.

Feasture, who is herself a former WNBA All-Star, reposted those photos on her Instagram with the following reaction:

“Lord have mercy… too soon, admin.”

Here, by admin she meant Paige Bueckers, who in the below story can be seen shaking hands with her daughter, Sarah Strong. She also included an emoji of crying LeBron James.

Before UConn eventually won the national championship, the Huskies had to overcome the challenge of the USC Trojans in the Elite Eight. UConn was the No. 2 seed while USC was the top seed entering this matchup.

The Huskies cruised to a 76–64 victory. Paige Bueckers had a slow start to the game but dominated the court once she started making shots. She led the charge with 31 points, while freshman phenom Sarah Strong dominated the boards with 22 points and 17 rebounds. The win punched UConn’s ticket to its 24th Final Four appearance.

With the performance, Strong became one of just two UConn freshmen to tally over 600 points in a season. Apart from Strong and Buecker, Azzi Fudd’s clutch 3-pointers in clutch moments proved to be the difference. Kaitlyn Chen also scored 15 points, going 6-for-9 from the field.

After defeating the Trojans in the Elite Eight, the Huskies went on to face the UCLA Bruins in the national semifinals at Tampa’s Amalie Arena. The Huskies won the game, 85–51. Finally, the Huskies were able to take down defending champions South Carolina Gamecocks to win their 12th national title.
