“That’s A Joke” “Michigan Too High”: Fans Slam AP Poll As Preseason Rankings Snub USC, Put Ohio State At No. 3

The 2025 college football season is almost here, and the AP Poll has released its 2025 preseason rankings and it has a few surprises. This fan-voted poll saw Texas at No. 1, which was not very surprising. However, it has fans divided as many felt that some schools were either placed too high or too low.

Fans took to social media to voice either their agreement or disagreement with the list, voicing their opinions on how certain teams fared in the poll.

“Michigan too high,” one fan claimed.

    “That’s a joke…” one fan stated.

“SMU is too high & the fact they ranked them as high as 16 but then didn’t rank Louisville or Georgia Tech at all is a miss – Baylor should be ranked – Illinois should not be 8 spots ahead of Indiana,” another fan said.

“I think Clemson & Penn St are the two best teams in the country but this poll is fair enough. SMU won’t sniff this list by the end of the year and Texas Tech will be the highest ranked Big 12 team in the end,” another fan pointed out.

“Preseason rankings are trash, since around 4 teams are overrated, then when they get beat, the other team gets overrated. I know it’s all for eyeballs on the games,” noted one commenter.

“There is so many things wrong in this ranking. First is Alabama being ranked 8 when they just lost their starting quarterback back, had 3 bad losses last year, and didn’t make playoffs, but their Alabama. Next is Michigan they weren’t ranked at the end of the year last year and Now they have a freshman quarter back who has not proved anything. Then it is Clemson I believe there are 6-8 teams better than Clemson,” one fan added.

As the poll showed, many of the voters snubbed some big names, including USC, UCLA and Auburn. The comments section showed that fans were displeased with the exclusion of some of these schools.

Many agree that coming into the new season, Texas is probably the favorite to win it all. The Longhorns have Arch Manning finally taking the reins as the QB1 and he is surrounded by a strong supporting cast. The same can be said for Penn State, as QB Drew Allar is surrounded with talent, such as Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen, as well as a stellar defense.

As for Ohio State, the school that raised a lot of eyebrows due to its placement, it is the defending national champion, though with a new QB1 in Julian Sayin. The team will boast a good offensive team and one of the best defensive squads in the NCAA.
