Jerry Jones’ Excitement For Patriots’ $4,203,316 QB Gets Fans Talking: “He’s Coming For Dak [Prescott]’s Job This Year”

Jerry Jones couldn’t believe that his Dallas Cowboys were able to sign former Michigan quarterback Joe Milton. The Cowboys traded for Milton along with a 2025 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2025 fifth-round pick.

Milton played for Michigan for three years before playing for Tennessee for two years. He joined the Patriots after being selected in the sixth round and showed his skills as starting quarterback in Week 18 last season, completing 75% of his passes for 241 yards and two total touchdowns. Milton is on a four-year rookie contract worth $4,203,316.

“I really have to pinch myself that we got him after the last game that he had up there, starting there for New England,” Jones said. “I’m just excited that we had a chance to get him. And he hasn’t disappointed. He’s actually… We’re just more and more encouraged by what we’re seeing.”

Seeing this reaction from Jerry Jones, fans got talking. Some assume that Milton’s potential exceeds that of the Cowboys’ current starting quarterback, Dak Prescott.

“He’s coming for Daks job this year 💯,” one fan said.

“Seems like he’s already over Dak 😭” @PBSportstalks commented.

“Dak must love reading this lol,” another fan posted.

“Unfortunately Joe cannot play in real live under the lights football when it counts. Not to mention, against the 1’s. He’s proven that everywhere he’s been. Starting out at Michigan,” @kennysmiff added.

However, some fan think it’s too early to say with certainty that Milton can shine with the Cowboys.

“That’s bc Milton had no pressure playing backup for the Patriots. It’s a different kind of pressure when you have that Star on the side of that helmet,” another fan said.

Joe Milton Surprised but Grateful Upon Being Traded to Cowboys: “Coming Here Was a Blessing”

The Patriots made quite a revamp to their quarterback room, which is led by Drake Maye. After the Patriots signed Josh Dobbs as Maye’s cover, many speculated that Milton could be on the move. With a few weeks to go before the regular season kickoff, the Cowboys made the move for him.

Milton, who will be playing backup quarterback to Dak Prescott in the upcoming season, said he was surprised by the trade but considers the move to Cowboys a blessing.

“Was I surprised? Yes,” Milton said. “I kind of woke up around, like, 7 o’clock, to a call and I knew I was getting traded.”

“The only thing I could have done, well, the only thing I did at that moment was to thank God,” Milton added. “Coming here was a blessing. I didn’t know it was going to be here. … I didn’t know where I was going to end up. I was just thankful to go to work. [But now I’m] back in the heat, for one. He allowed me to play in the dome, for two. And, three, it’s America’s team. Also, it’s just great to learn from someone like Dak.”

It remains to be seen if Milton challenges Dak Prescott for the starting role if the Cowboys start on a rough note.
