Deion Sanders has recently expressed his opinion regarding the mentality of his son Shedeur Sanders. Sanders will make his preseason debut with the Browns tonight against the Carolina Panthers. A tweet by Jake Schwanitz showed Prime’s comments.
“It will be awkward to both of us. The last time I missed three games I was in the hospital. So ready now is he. Most people are going into it like a preseason game, he is going in as a game. He is grateful and appreciative of the chance. I cannot wait to see him play. It will be a mess out there tonight dawg, I can tell you that,” Sanders said.
Coach Prime on Shedeur Sanders starting for the Cleveland Browns tonight.
“It’s going to be strange for both of us. I was in the hospital the last time I missed three games. He’s so prepared right now. A lot of people are approaching like a preseason game, he’s approaching it…

The message of Coach Prime seemed to highlight his individual feelings as well as his confidence in his son’s readiness. Shedeur’s coming into the spotlight is not his typical roster move; it is his first real chance to demonstrate what he can do in the NFL in a live environment.

What Shedeur Sanders’ Preseason Spotlight Means to Browns QB Room
The desire for a roster spot for Shedeur Sanders comes at a time when the quarterback position in Cleveland is in a foggy state. Joe Flacco is QB1 in the first unofficial depth chart according to ESPN, but it comes with caveats.
The same report also stated that Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel are still working with hamstring injuries and have been limited. It seems Sanders has a legitimate opportunity to take momentum in this preseason as one of the only healthy quarterbacks. ESPN also notes that Browns interim coach Kevin Stefanski has not committed to a Week 1 starter, so the battle remains open and is a high-stakes one.
Another emerging storyline is the Browns’ signing of Tyler Huntley. It seems like a move to provide depth at the position, but there are now five quarterbacks on the roster.
Shedeur Sanders is also trying hard to channel the pressure of expectations. Shedeur himself reported that he had requested his father not to attend training camp. He said on Monday:
“I don’t want him to come … I want to get where I want to go.” This debut leaves the QB competition in the Browns wide open, but recent events seem to be in favor of Sanders. His preparation and mindset are attracting the spotlight as the Browns go through a complex preseason.”
