CFB Insider Draws Bold Comparisons Between Deion Sanders’ Weapon JuJu Lewis With Panthers’ $37.5M QB

Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes have a new rising star, 17-year-old JuJu Lewis. On the most recent episode of “The Rich Eisen Show,” college football insider Bruce Feldman declared Lewis as an important figure in the quarterback competition at the program.

Feldman compared the youngster to a couple of NFL quarterbacks, such as Kyler Murray of the Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers’ Bryce Young, who signed a four-year, $37.5 million contract in 2023.

“You have a new quarterback, whether it will be Kaidon Salter… or JuJu Lewis, who is a 17-year-old quarterback who was a big recruit for them. I mean, I think at some point, you’re going to see a lot of Juju Lewis,” he said (1:20).

“I don’t know whether he is quite as the size of Bryce Young, but about that. But it’s not like Bryce Young and Kyler Murray are not the comparison because they are more dynamic athletes than he is. But he is a really good passer, and there’s still plenty of weapons around for him,” he added.

Feldman opined that Lewis might not be as mobile as those NFL stars, but he has great potential from a passer’s standpoint and has the offensive support that can speed up his role under Deion Sanders.

Lewis seeing more action in camp could be an indication that the true freshman might see the field sooner than anticipated. One of the nationally praised quarterback recruits, Lewis has already generated buzz during fall practices in Boulder.

Can Deion Sanders’ Colorado Improve on 4 and 9 Wins from Previous Seasons?

Colorado went from four wins in the first year (2023) under Deion Sanders to nine wins in 2024. The Buffaloes are resetting at several positions, with Travis Hunter now in the NFL, and other major leaders such as Shedeur Sanders and Shilo Sanders also gone. Feldman said he isn’t sure if Colorado is going to have those moments when Travis Hunter took over.

Feldman did not go as far as to label this a rebuild, but he did predict that the results of the 2025 team could be somewhere between the 2023 and 2024 results of the program. He claimed that the defense remains a projected NFL-level at cornerback, but the ceiling of the team will probably be determined by quarterback play.

The offensive coordinator of Colorado, Pat Shurmur, has heaped compliments on the improvement of the three scholarship quarterbacks: Salter, Lewis, and Ryan Staub. However, there is still a refusal to declare the Week 1 starter due to further evaluation and development. With just a few weeks before the team opens its season on Aug. 29, there is not much time to work on the depth chart, as they have a demanding schedule.
