Geno Auriemma Set To Unite With Kim Mulkey’s Assistant In Honoring UConn Legend During 2025 Naismith Hall of Fame Induction

WNBA legends Sue Bird and Maya Moore have received the ultimate honor for their legendary basketball career as the latest inductees to the Women’s Hall of Fame. Bird and Moore have been pivotal figures in the rise of the league’s popularity, cementing themselves as stalwarts of not just women’s basketball but the sport as well.

Sue Bird and Maya Moore will be presented to the Hall of Fame by UConn Huskies head coach Geno Auriemma, alongside Huskies legend Swin Cash. Moore will also be presented by WNBA legends Seimone Augustus, Tamika Catchings, and Lindsay Whalen. Interestingly, in this manner, Auriemma will be sharing the stage with Augustus, who is currently an assistant coach at LSU under Kim Mulkey.

Bird and Moore will be inducted alongside NBA legends Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard. The Class of 2025 also includes Sylvia Fowles, Danny Crawford, the 2008 USA Olympic team, coach Billy Donovan, and Miami Heat’s owner Micky Arison.

Bird is a 13-time WNBA All-Star and has won four championships in the league. As a college player, she has won two NCAA titles at UConn and five gold medals as a member of the USA Olympic team. Considered one of the greatest point guards in the league’s history, Bird averaged 11.7 points, 5.6 assists, and 2.5 rebounds per game, having played over 580 regular-season games in her WNBA career.

Maya Moore’s basketball resume is no less stacked. As a Minnesota Lynx legend, Moore is also a four-time WNBA champion and a six-time WNBA All-Star. She has won the Natty twice at UConn and has won two gold medals representing the United States in the 2012 and 2016 Olympics. Moore’s case is considered special as she is one of the only 10 players ever to win a world championship gold medal, Olympic gold, NCAA title, and a WNBA championship.

Members of the Class of 2025 will be presented by previously inducted Hall of Famers

An interesting fact about the Class of 2025 Hall of Famers is that they have been asked to select a previously inducted HOFer as their presenter. This decision was made by the incoming class themselves and, in the case of posthumous inductees, their family. Hence, this year’s ceremony would be stacked with legends honoring their contemporaries in the field.

A clear example of this is Sue Bird and Maya Moore being presented by Geno Auriemma and Swin Cash from the 2006 and 2022 classes, respectively. Moore will also be presented by Tamika Catchings and Seimone Augustus from the 2020 and 2024 classes. The same goes for their NBA counterparts, too, with Carmelo Anthony and Dwight Howard being presented by Allen Iverson, Dwyane Wade, and Dennis Rodman, among others.
