Despite Losing Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, Deion Sanders Gets Insider’s Stamp of Approval on Colorado Rebuild

The 2025 Colorado Buffaloes are a big mystery, mainly because this will be the first year when Deion Sanders will be in charge of the program, but he won’t have key players like Travis Hunter, Shedeur, and Shilo Sanders. Some even question his true interest in coaching now that his protégés have moved to the NFL.

However, Blake Ruffino thinks otherwise. For the college sports analyst, this is the best version of the Deion Sanders’ Buffaloes fans will see.

“I’m going to throw out a hot statement. I think this is just the best overall team that they’ve had top to bottom. That’s tough to say when you had a quarterback like Shedeur and a Heisman Trophy winner. But the problem is, as a collective unit upfront, they’re much better, and that’s what separates them. And it’s what’s going to separate them if they can run the football,” Ruffino said on Monday.

The biggest problem the Colorado Buffaloes have faced over the last two seasons was their offensive line. The problem was so serious that Shedeur Sanders was the most sacked quarterback over the last two years, being sacked a total of 94 times over that period.

The running game was also an issue, due mainly to the lack of cover the offensive line afforded the backfield players. Colorado’s leading rusher in 2024, Isaiah Augustave, only had 384 yards. The team as a whole recorded 847.

Deion Sanders believes the 2025 Colorado Buffaloes are better than ever

Deion Sanders has a similar opinion to Ruffino. Speaking during the Big 12 media days last month, the Colorado head coach surprised the press by saying that he believes that when comparing the 2024 and 2025 Buffs, this year’s version is to be considered the better.

“They were great players. We have a better team,” Deion Sanders said. “There’s a difference between great players and a great team. We have a better team, but we can never replace those types of players. It may take three players on offense to replace a Travis Hunter. It may take two players to replace a Shedeur Sanders, and that’s what we brought here.”

Deion Sanders’ objective for this year is clear. Break into the double-digit wins team and bring the first Bowl victory to Colorado in more than a decade.
