Dawn Staley’s Former Star A’ja Wilson Shares 3-Word Reaction Following South Carolina HoF Honors

The South Carolina Gamecocks are honoring their former standout player and WNBA phenomenon A’ja Wilson by inducting her into the university’s Hall of Fame. Wilson is one of the six former student-athletes to be inducted to South Carolina’s Athletics Hall of Fame this year.

The induction ceremony will take place on Oct. 23 this year and the 2025 Hall of Fame Class will also be honored during the Gamecocks’ football game against Alabama on Oct. 25.

As excited as the fans are, A’ja Wilson could not contain hers either. To express her delight and gratefulness for such an honor, Wilson posted a story with a three-worded message, saying,

    “Top Tier Blessings 🙏🤍.”

Earlier, the Gamecocks honored A’ja Wilson by retiring her jersey and hanging it up in the rafters on Feb. 2. As a Gamecock, Wilson was a three-time SEC Player of the Year and the program’s first four-time All-American, raking three first-team selections from 2016 to 2018.

Alongside Wilson, Natasha Hastings (Track & Field 2005-2007), Paul Jubb (Men’s Tennis 2016-2020), Brandon Hulko (Diving 1999-2002), Akram Mahmoud (Swimming 2014-2018), and Mollie Patton (Women’s Soccer 2006-2010) are also being honored as South Carolina’s 2025 Hall of Fame class.

A’ja Wilson replicated the same success at her collegiate level in the WNBA

In the collegiate level, A’ja Wilson led the Gamecocks to the national championship in 2017, winning the MVP honors of the Final Four. She is also a two-time SEC Tournament MVP and holds the school record in points (2.389), blocks (363), and blocks per game (2.6). And fairly enough, she replicated the same level of success and performance as a professional as well.

Wilson was drafted as the first overall pick in the 2018 WNBA draft. Since then, she has been a three-time league MVP, a seven-time WNBA All-Star, and led the Las Vegas Aces to consecutive titles in 2022 and 2023.

On June 25, Wilson also became the fastest player to reach 5,000 points, surpassing Breanna Stewart. She also holds the record for being the first player in league history to score 1,000 points in a single season and set a WNBA single-season rebounding record.

As of this season, Wilson is averaging 21.3 points and 9.2 rebounds per game. Her fame and popularity has led her to become one of the most celebrated women athletes, even earning a signature shoe as a Nike ambassador. A’ja Wilson proudly boasts Nike’s A’One sneaker collection to her name, which sold out within minutes of its release. This, in fact, speaks volumes highlighting her rising influence as a WNBA and global basketball star.
