Shilo Sanders is already causing a stir with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and his mother, Pilar Sanders, ensured that the world was aware of the same. Pilar, the ex-wife of Deion Sanders, left a comment on the electric performance of her son on Monday.
Pilar reshared the Buccaneers training camp highlight of her son breaking up a pass in coverage in a 13-second Instagram Story. The post was captioned, “SHILO SANDERS MAKING PLAYS.” She wrote on her story
“MY SON!”
Shilo is an undrafted free agent who signed with the Bucs. He has been working his way through his first NFL training camp. The video, shared by the official account of the Buccaneers and reposted by Pilar, depicts the rookie defensive back in jersey No. 28 and keeping close in the man coverage before deflecting the ball out of the hands of a receiver.

Shilo Sanders’ Path to a Roster Spot and DB Competition
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are looking to strengthen their defensive backfield during this offseason. Rookies and second-year players are competing to get to the same level as some of the veteran starters, including Antoine Winfield Jr. and Zyon McCollum. Shilo Sanders has discreetly joined that discussion, bringing with him a physical brand of football and veteran instincts he developed during his time at Jackson State and Colorado.
The official team site of Tampa Bay states that Shilo belongs to the DB unit, and the reps that he gets in practice are the ones that matter in terms of getting a spot on the 53-man roster. Until recently, Shilo was said to be receiving second-team reps in passing situations, but no depth chart decisions have been released.
Most of the attention has been on his brother, Shedeur Sanders, who was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the 2025 NFL Draft. After staying consistent in terms of work on the field, one of his teammates praised Shilo Sanders.
“He plays hard,” Antoine Winfield Jr. said to reporters at training camp. “He really wants to learn and just wants to improve his game, and that’s something you admire for somebody who’s coming in…He’s a great kid, works tremendously hard.”
With the preseason opener just around the corner, Pilar’s proud post is one more reason that fans and observers will have to keep their eyes on No. 28 in red and pewter.
