Colorado head football coach and Shedeur Sanders’ father Deion Sanders opened up about the damage that bladder cancer has inflicted on his body in a recent update on the Well Off YouTube Channel. The NFL legend is now recovering after undergoing a surgery that took away his bladder and replaced it with a part of his intestine, a surgery that has made him temporarily inactive in team activities.
The video showed an unpolished view of a transitional coach. Deion acknowledged that he did not want his players to see him in a debilitated form. He also mentioned the 14 pounds he lost and how it has affected his energy.
“No reactions or actions. I really don’t, because I’ve got to get back healthy. I don’t want my young men who play for me to see me like this. I don’t want the coaches to see me 14 lbs down and with no energy,” he said (5:18).
Deion then went on to share how much he is hurting before expressing his determination to get back to full strength.
“Everything inside is hurting when I am speaking now. I lost what I was, and I need to go back to who I am and what I am before I can go back to Boulder,” he said.

Deion Sanders Keeps Colorado’s QB Decision Close to the Vest Amid Praise for Salter and JuJu
The Colorado quarterback race is heating up. Although you are not likely to hear about the starter announcement anytime soon. Sanders, at Big 12 Media Days, said both Kaidon Salter and Julian JuJu Lewis are going to be in the mix.
When he was questioned about the competition, he calmly responded in July at the Media Days.
“We definitely want to continue to develop JuJu, but Kaidon is unbelievable. Kaidon is off the chain. He’s been there, done that. He can get the job done… But JuJu is coming on round the mountain when he comes… I love what he brings to the table. I don’t know how it’s going to play out as long as it plays out. We can’t lose either way with either of those two.” he said.
He still has not declared a starter, but he made it clear that Salter and JuJu both would acquire their roles on the team by performance. Although the QB decision has not been made, Sanders confirmed that he would expect the team to be held to a high standard.
Whether Coach Prime declares a starter will be one of the most closely followed developments of the season. In the meantime, Colorado is putting its faith in patient development and trusting the teaching process, both within the QB room and throughout the offense.
