Marcus Freeman Gives Key Injury Updates on Notre Dame TE Cooper Flanagan, OL Charles Jagusah Ahead of Fall Camp Push

Head coach Marcus Freeman and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are preparing for the 2025 college football season. They are coming off an appearance in the national championship game, where they lost to the Ohio State Buckeyes. Unfortunately for Freeman, the team was not healthy at the start of training camp.

On Thursday, Freeman provided several key injury updates, including those on defensive lineman Boubacar Traore, tight end Cooper Flanagan and offensive lineman Charles Jagusah. While Traore is expected to be ready soon, Flanagan and Jagusah do not have a timeline for their return yet.

“Yeah, Boubacar (Traore) is more of a progression. He’ll be ready to go. We just want to, you know, slowly increase the load that we ask him to perform in practice. With (Cooper Flanagan) and Charles (Jagusah),” Marcus Freeman said (Timestamp 3:40). “They’ll be back during the season. You know, I don’t know. There’s not a hard date that we’re going to say this is the game they’ll be back, but they’ll be back this year.

“Charles just had a procedure to clean up, to sew back his wound. We had to close up his wound, but that’s not going to delay his return more than a couple days. And so it’s a progression, but we don’t want to put a timeline on. We don’t want to say this is the exact game they’re going to be back because with rehabilitation, it can all change based on how they’re progressing.”

Marcus Freeman Is Devastated for OL Charles Jagusah

It is disappointing when a player gets injured while playing football, but that is a reality that players need to deal with. Injuries are always a risk. However, it is even more disappointing when a player gets injured off the field. That was the case for offensive lineman Charles Jagusah as he broke the humerus in his left arm while riding a utility terrain vehicle on July 5.

Some Fighting Irish fans on social media expressed their frustration that Jagusah would put himself at risk with a dangerous activity like that. However, Freeman does not view it in the same way. He is not upset at Jagusah. Instead, he was devastated for him.

Jagusah also dealt with injuries last year. A torn pectoral muscle in August kept him out of the lineup until the last two games of Notre Dame’s run in the College Football Playoff. He was projected to be the team’s starting right guard this season.
