Bear Alexander has transferred ahead of the 2025 college football season. The offensive lineman was part of the Georgia Bulldogs team, which won the national championship, before transferring to USC. After playing one season with the Trojans, in September, Alexander announced that he’ll redshirt and miss the remaining games in 2024.
In December, he entered the transfer portal and joined Dan Lanning’s Oregon Ducks. 221 days later, the head coach has finally spoken about Alexander.
“Well, Bear’s worked his tail off since he’s been here,” Lanning said at Big 10 Media Days. “I think he understands the perception that’s out there, and like you said, perception isn’t always reality.”
Lanning further spoke about Alexander’s gritty mindset and how he’s always up for learning.
“He puts in more time when it comes to film study,” Lanning added. “When it comes to extra work, than almost anybody in our program. And I think that speaks to his commitment. I also think he realized, ‘Hey, this is an opportunity for me to really set the stage for what am I going to be defined as moving forward.’ And he realized, everybody wants individual success, but I think Bear’s one of those guys that realize that comes through team success. He’s a guy that understands what the standard looks like, and there was some in between there for him.”
Bear Alexander has played 28 games so far in his college career. He has tallied 61 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss and 3.5 sacks.

Bear Alexander explains why he transferred to Ducks
Dan Lanning is excited about Bear Alexander’s upcoming season with the Ducks. Earlier in April, the offensive lineman spoke about his decision to transfer to Lanning’s program.
“Knowing I’m gonna be pushed as a player and just reach my full potential here at Oregon,” Alexander said.
During his visit to Oregon, Alexander was hosted by former Oregon defensive linemen Derrick Harmon and Jamaree Caldwell.
“They kind of told me, man, it was gonna be tough come here,” Alexander said. “So just kind of hearing from them firsthand and kind of giving me like a view of what it’s gonna be like.”
Bear Alexander has also been praised by defensive line coach Tony Tuioti for their coaching efforts. Tuoti compared Alexander’s presence to Caldwell and Harmon in the program, and pointed out his commitment.
It remains to be seen if Bear Alexander can win his second national championship with the Ducks.
