Yet another mass shooting has rocked the United States, as a Nevada man identified as Shane Tamura opened fire inside a New York City building that housed the NFL’s New York City headquarters. As it turns out, the mass shooter used to be a high school football standout who played for Granada Hills High School in Southern California.
New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch revealed that Tamura went into 345 Park Ave. in Midtown, Manhattan, as business ended. He came armed with an M4 rifle and opened fire, killing four people, including an off-duty police officer named Didarul Islam. He then turned his own gun on himself and was dead at the scene, as per NBC News.
As investigations into the mass shooting continued, an interview with Tamura, who used to be a high school football star, surfaced. In that interview, he spoke about a game where he led his team to victory.

Tamura played in Canada after wrapping up his high school football career. He then moved to Nevada, with authorities finding that he has a Las Vegas address. The suspect has had a history of mental illness, and he has been wondering if “CTE,” a common problem among football players who often get rocked in the head, could have been the cause of his mental problems.
Investigations are still ongoing, and the connection to whether the NFL HQ was the true target is still being investigated, though NYC Mayor Eric Adams claims this is so. Authorities have revealed that he travelled across the country from Las Vegas to New York via a BMW that is registered to Nevada. Investigators revealed they found “a rifle case with rounds, ammunition magazines and a loaded revolver.”

Former California High School Teammates in Shock After Shane Tamura Committed a Mass Shooting
Tamura’s actions have shocked many of his former teammates at Granada Hills, where he was a high school standout. Former classmate and teammate Caleb Blark, who revealed that Tamura worked at a Las Vegas casino, spoke with NBC News regarding his former classmate.
“You never would have thought violence was something you’d associate with him,” said Clark. “Everything he said was a joke.”
Another former teammate, Anthony Michael Leon, also expressed his disbelief at the news.
“This is so shocking,” Leon told NBC News. “I’m telling you, this was one of those kids who never exerted bad energy or a negative attitude.”
New York City Mayor Eric Adams revealed in a Tuesday press conference that Tamura blamed the NFL and targeted its HQ. While Tamura entered the correct building, Adams said he took the wrong elevator and shot up the wrong floor.
