LSU women’s basketball head coach Kim Mulkey is all love for her new transfer MiLaysia Fulwiley, who helped lead Team USA to a title in the FIBA 3×3 Nations League. Fulwiley entered the NCAA transfer portal on April 11 after two seasons with the South Carolina Gamecocks.
Mulkey took to Instagram and reposted a celebratory graphic of Fulwiley in her Team USA jersey with the bold title “CHAMPION” splashed across the image. She also tagged LSU Women’s Basketball and Fulwiley.

Fulwiley played at five of the six tournament stops in Punta Arenas, Chile, competing in 14 games overall. She averaged 4.1 points per game.
In a clutch situation against Canada, Fulwiley buried a two-pointer with 31 seconds remaining to give the U.S. a 15-12 win in Stop 4. She finished the Final with five points, helping lead the U.S. to its third title of the week. Team USA captured the overall Conference title, winning four of the six Stop Finals during the week.
How did Kim Mulkey land MiLaysia Fulwiley?
The college basketball world was left in shock after MiLaysia Fulwiley entered the transfer portal two weeks later after finishing a successful campaign with the South Carolina Gamecocks, who were defeated by Geno Auriemma’s Huskies in the NCAA Tournament final.
Fulwiley committed to LSU after averaging 11.7 points per game as one of the Gamecocks’ top scorers off the bench, along with 60 steals and 30 blocks.
Kim Mulkey revealed how she was able to land the commitment of Fulwiley.
“It didn’t take much,” Mulkey said. “I spoke to her and her mother one time. One time. And she has not even come here on a visit. She has played against us enough to know our style of play. These young people do their homework. They look at rosters, they look at openings in the starting five, they look at openings in the rotation… and she pretty much I think had her mind made up.”
“And it was not an easy thing to sell, but you’re always nervous. And that’s what makes it not easy,” Mulkey added. “But she’s an exciting player, she plays with a lot of flair. She’s going to come to a program that has great players. And we’re going to be excited when we can get her on that floor.”
Fulwiley earned SEC Sixth Woman of the Year honors and second-team All‑SEC recognition last season. At LSU, Fulwiley joins a veteran guard lineup featuring Flau’jae Johnson and Mikaylah Williams.
