Deion Sanders has been suffering from an unknown health issue since at least April of this year. Earlier this Monday, it was revealed that the coach had been recovering from a procedure he underwent to remove a tumor on his bladder. The Colorado coach hadn’t been seen in public since the end of the spring training period and the Big 12 media days earlier this month. In between, Coach Prime was mostly seen through social media interactions on his Canton, Texas, property.
Fans and analysts alike are worried about how this could have impacted the Colorado Buffaloes’ recruiting game during the key months of late spring and early summer.
D-Rich has taken it a step further, suggesting Sanders should resign from his position with Colorado if his health issues are too serious. If you think this is a criticism of Sanders, it isn’t.
According to him, Coach Prime has done enough to leave Boulder with his head held high. He said:
“If Deion Sanders leaves Colorado and can no longer coach due to health concerns, the first thing people are going to say is it was never really about the kids. It was about his two sons and Travis Hunter and getting them to the NFL. But if he can no longer coach due to his health, I feel like he should step down because Deion Sanders has done enough for Colorado. Their ticket sales were $31 million in 2024. That’s a record. The previous record was $16 million for them. He made them a television-relevant football team.”

D-Rich does emphasize the role of Deion Sanders in improving the marketability of the Colorado program and making it financially viable. That’s not in dispute, but the fact remains that Coach Prime has only been at Colorado for two seasons, one with a losing record and the other with a winning one. Zero bowl victories, no championships, but with a Heisman Trophy winner.

Deion Sanders made his will amid his health worries
Over the weekend, Deion Sanders Jr. released a video about the comings and goings of the Colorado football program during the 2025 offseason.
One of the videos, dated May 9, showed Deion Sanders battling with his medical concerns and revealing that he had to sign his will among fears that his situation might deteriorate:
“I don’t know if I’m ready mentally, emotionally.” (3:18)
“Yesterday was tough because I had to make a will,” Sanders then reveals in a somber tone. “That’s not easy, at all, to think that you might not be there, but you want to make sure everybody is straight.”
While the specific issue isn’t known, Sanders has long battle with blood clots in his legs and even had some fingers amputated some years ago.
