In one of the most surprising moves of the offseason, quarterback Carson Beck transferred from Georgia to Miami. After a subpar season, he opted for a change of scenery for his final year of NCAA eligibility.
At the ACC media days last week, Beck reflected on his decision to leave Georgia. He spoke about that while he appreciates his time in Georgia, the transfer was one of the better decisions he has ever made.
On Sunday, analyst J.D. PicKell posted a video on the On3 YouTube channel discussing expectations for Carson Beck this season.
“Carson, I’d love if you could be an ‘Avenger’ for us,” PicKell said (1:30). “Can you just stretch the field, because the way that Miami’s offense is designed, they aren’t gonna be completely air raid, but it’s like an air raid sort of vibe to it. Like, diet air raid is how I would describe the offense. You saw that a year ago. Cam Ward put up the best year ever for a Hurricane quarterback, based on the numbers.”
“Yeah, some of that is because Cam Ward is a freaking God but a lot of that is they are trying to push the ball downfield,” he added. “If you want to push the ball downfield, you gotta have a guy who can do that. There’s a reason he’s making in the range of $4 million, allegedly. Carson Beck, if we are going to get to where we want to go, no you’re not Superman, but I need some juice from you dude. I do need you to be the reason why we are winning football games.”
PicKell went on to explain that there is no world where Beck has an average year and the Hurricanes still win the ACC. He spoke about how the team is built around the quarterback being the star, and that is what Beck needs to be, even if he does not reach Cam Ward’s level.

Carson Beck Is Not Worried About Pressure of Replacing Cam Ward
Part of the reason the Miami Hurricanes were so successful last season was because of the play of Cam Ward. Ward emerged as one of the best players in college football and was rewarded by becoming the first pick in the 2025 NFL draft. Carson Beck is stepping in as his replacement.
Despite stepping into some big shoes in Miami, Carson Beck spoke at the ACC media days about how he does not feel the pressure of replacing Ward. He mentioned that he replaced a two-time national champion at Georgia, Stetson Bennett, and he did not feel pressure then either.
