“Thinking Geno Would Never”: Hoops Fans Left in Stitches As Paige Bueckers Gives Eyebrow Raise to Drawn Up Play

The Dallas Wings seem to be in shambles, despite having breakout rookie star Paige Bueckers on the team. The Wings’ recent defeat against the Golden State Valkyries marks their 18th loss of the season. Paige Bueckers and co. fell 86-76, which had even Bueckers evidently frustrated.

With 59 seconds left on the clock, coach Chris Koclanes drew out a play during the timeout which had a rather puzzled and exasperated reaction from Bueckers. Although, the Wings did deploy the play on the floor, the execution was flawed, leading to no results at the end.

The ensuing play involved Bueckers driving towards the baseline after receiving a back screen from Haley Jones. But none of the Wings players cut inside the paint for the same. With limited playmaking options available, Bueckers passed the ball out to Jones, who failed to get a bucket in her driving attempt.

Netizens couldn’t help but sympathize with Bueckers, given her frustrated look during the team huddle. Revisiting the time when Geno Auriemma used to coach Bueckers at UConn, one fan wrote:

“Imagine going from Geno to whatever this is 🥴🥴#freepaige.”

Some more fans had similar sentiments and had these to say.

“She prolly thinking geno would never lmfaoao.”

    “She like Geno would never!”

Some of the fans demanded Dallas coach Chris Kocalnes to be immediately replaced.

    “He’s got to go.”

“Get the girls a decent coach 😢.”

    “Wings need a new coach!”

The Dallas Wings currently have a 7-18 record in the season and are positioned 12th in the WNBA standings. Though Paige Bueckers might have exceptional individual form so far, the Wings haven’t been any good at displaying a winning mentality as a team. With this, they seem quite far from playoff contention for this season.

Paige Bueckers goes past 350 points in her rookie WNBA season

In this game against the Golden State Valkyries, Paige Bueckers posted 17 points and six assists. This stat is special because it made Bueckers the first WNBA player to score 350+ points and 100+ assists in the first 20 games of her career.

So far, Bueckers is averaging 18.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 5.6 assists per game in her rookie season. Achieving such a record only makes her case to win the ROTY award this year even stronger.
