“To See This Nut”: Coach Prime Expresses Excitement Before Seeing Son Shilo for First Time in Almost 3 Months

Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders, head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, recently shared his delight over reconnecting with his youngest son, Shilo Sanders after almost three months.

In one fun moment that showed more of his funny side, Deion is all about the excitement of the upcoming reunion.

“But to see this nut…I can’t wait to see him. I haven’t seen him in a long time,” Sanders shared. (1:37)

The separation has been particularly difficult considering the hectic schedules both father and son have been managing. Coach Prime has been hard at work preparing the Colorado Buffaloes for the upcoming season, while Shilo Sanders has been grinding at Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ training camp, working his hardest to chase his NFL dreams as an undrafted free agent.

Sanders also joked during a discussion about where his son was living while at training camp, saying:

“He should go to the crib, but you know Sheldon; once he gets an address, he isn’t leaving.”

The fact that they are both faced with an extended separation could not be more perfectly timed in their careers. Coach Prime is dealing with undisclosed ongoing health issues that caused him to miss Colorado’s summer football camps.

While still emerging from the recovery process, Sanders has been able to still honor his previously scheduled prominent public appearances and required coach duties, but has publicly stated that he wasn’t all the way recovered.

Shilo Sanders Carving His Own Path in Tampa Bay

As fate would have it, Shilo has been singularly focused on finding his place in Tampa Bay’s competitive training camp. Following his undrafted status in the 2025 NFL Draft, the young safety signed as an undrafted free agent with the Buccaneers and is looking to prove he belongs on an NFL roster.

The timing of their reunion is monumental given, Shilo is currently in the middle of roster battles against established veterans, as well as rookies, for a position among Tampa Bay’s final 53-man roster. Every practice, drill, and meeting are times to showcase his talent and football intelligence.

For Shilo, this undertaking is more than running the race to an NFL career. It is about distancing himself from the extremely large shadows of his father, and brother Shedeur , who is receiving much of the publicity as Colorado’s starting quarterback. The burdens of overcoming the Sanders’ name and attempting to make his own identity is a recurring chapter throughout his own football story.
