Lauren Betts’ teammates Marya Hudgins, Gabriela Jaquez, and Kiki Rice hopped on to her comments section to shower the UCLA senior with praise. Rice wrote:
“At dat rim”
If one comment wasn’t enough, Rice had some more words to spare for Betts. She added”
“Bowww😍😍.”
Jacquez seemed to be quite in awe of her teammate balancing her career and life outside of it so efficiently. Expressing her delight, she wrote:
“Love this so much.”
Hudgins couldn’t help but gush over the picture by spamming heart eyes emojis in the comments. She commented:
“😍😍”
Here’s what they had to say:
For Betts, focusing on a life outside basketball has made her even better at the sport. In January last year, she spoke to ESPN for the first time, sharing her mental health journey. Everyone close to Lauren know how she overcame struggling with depression and insecurity to become one of the best contemporary college basketball players.
UCLA is placing their ‘Bets’ on Lauren Betts to win National Championship
Lauren Betts and the UCLA Bruins’ journey in the quest for a National Championship last season ended in a Final Four loss to the eventual champions UConn Huskies. As one of the top-rated juniors, Betts averaged 30.1 minutes per game in the 2024-25 season.
Bruins coach Cori Close believes that had taken a huge toll on Betts. For her senior season with UCLA, Close is willing to let Betts play less minutes, take lesser shots and hopefully, contribute to a winning mentality for the team.
As per Hoops HQ, Close admitted going ‘high gear’ and exerting so much pressure on Lauren Betts as a centerpiece might have backfired for the Bruins.
“We would have liked to sign maybe one more transfer, but the bottom line is, we made such a high commitment to her that we knew it would decrease our chances to land some others,” Close said.
For the next season, the Bruins are also adding Lauren’s younger sister, Sienna Betts as a freshman. Expected to be an impact player, Sienna is a 6’4″ forward, two-time Colorado Gatorade Player of the Year and ranked No.2 recruit by ESPN’s HoopGurlz.
Sienna might as well help take the load from Lauren Betts as a forward and play the five in her place. Additionally, she can be paired with her sister as a four. The Bruins are hopeful to enter the 2025-26 with one goal in mind: winning the national championship.
