Jason Whitlock Pinpoints “Part Of Caitlin Clark’s Struggle” Amid Teammate Kelsey Mitchell’s Sister’s Claims

Kelsey Mitchell’s sister recently fired some shots in the general direction of Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark.

Chelsea Mitchell replied to the Facebook of a user who indicated that Clark hasn’t been a true difference maker for the Fever, and that Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston should be considered the true heart of the team’s offense. The comment she added said, ” I Gotta Agree!”.

Speaking on Friday on his YouTube channel, Jason Whitlock spoke about the situation and sort of reduced the importance of it:

“Hey, this is the same as Iowa. This is the same as my high school team. This is the same as my junior high team. This is the same as my grade school team. I gotta take shots and I gotta control the ball and I gotta make every play because the rest of my teammates are a lot worse than me.” (3:37)

“And so Kelsey Mitchell is watching Caitlin Clark in real time try to figure out how to play with players like herself who can get a bucket, with players like Aaliyah Boston who can get a bucket. And so that’s part of Caitlin Clark’s struggle, and no one in the media talks about it — because either you make ridiculous racial claims about Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese, or you just go on TV or go on your podcast and you celebrate Caitlin Clark as if she can do no wrong,” he added.

Clark is currently off the team, due to an injury she suffered the week before the WNBA All-Star Game. During a game against the Connecticut Sun on July 15, Clark left the court towards the end of the encounter due to a recurring groin injury. The 85-77 victory was just the fourth game back for Clark, after a five-game absence due to the same injury.

Indiana Fever’s statement on Caitlin Clark’s injury

On Thursday, the Indiana Fever released a short statement that raised more questions than it answered regarding Caitlin Clark’s injury:

“The team can confirm that no additional injuries or damage were discovered through the evaluations. Clark will continue working with the Fever medical team on her recovery and rehabilitation, with the priority on her long-term health and well-being.

“There is no timetable available for Clark’s return, and no additional details will be provided at this time. Any further updates will be shared as they become available.”

While the statement does say that no extensive damage was suffered, the fact that the team is unable to give an estimated date for Clark’s return does raise some questions. Clark has lost considerable time this season due to injury, for a total of 12 games.

More importantly, Caitlin Clark missed the WNBA All-Star Game for which she was a team captain, and which the Indiana Fever hosted for the first time in franchise history.
