The four-way race for the starting quarterback spot for the Cleveland Browns between Shedeur Sanders, Kenny Pickett, Dillon Gabriel, and Joe Flacco is heating up at the Browns training camp in Akron. Analysts left and right have been giving their takes and many believe that the two rookies, Gabriel and Sanders, may not be getting that starter position, at least at the start of the season. However, Shannon Sharpe does not believe this analysis.
Many of these analysts believe Kenny Pickett will be getting the starter nod at first, but Sharpe said in his “Nightcap” podcast that he believes Pickett might not be all that. Co-host Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson noted that there has been a lot of inside chatter about Pickett being QB1, but Sharpe disagrees.
You bring in a veteran 18 years in in Joe Flacco, you bring in another veteran player in Kenny Pickett and you take take two rookies. I don’t I don’t get that because I see a very similar situation with the RG3 situation in Washington,” he explained. “You take RG3 with the number two pick and then you end up get taking Cousins and we see how that played out.” (18:57)
“Mike didn’t want RG3 because back then, they were in salary cap hell. so they had a lot of debt. They had a lot. They really didn’t have any cap space.” he added.
Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson agreed with Sharpe, stating that he believes Sanders to be the better pick for that starting quarterback spot over Pickett.

Rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders Already Impressing During Training Camp
Meanwhile, with the race for the starting quarterback position heating up, multiple reports have stated that the Browns management and staff have become impressed by its two rookies, Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.
NFL Network’s Judy Battista has reported that Gabriel was given an increase in snaps after he reportedly blew away the coaching staff with his processing speed. Meanwhile, Sanders, the son of NFL legend and Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders, has been getting much praise for his work ethic.
All in all, both rookies have been off to a strong start at the Browns training camp in Akron. However, other reports have indicated that the two veterans, Pickett and Flacco, currently have the advantage in the race and might get that starting nod. This may be just at the start of the season though, as the Browns coaching staff might decide to put in Sanders or Gabriel in that starting spot should Pickett or Flacco not perform as well as expected.
