Freshman defensive end Corey Adams was supposed to finally make his college debut with Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss Rebels, but this did not happen as the incoming freshman was shot dead in a Memphis suburb on Saturday night. He was 18 years old.
The school is now in mourning for Adams’ violent death, with some of his teammates over at Ole Miss taking to social media to mourn his loss, even though they have not been teammates with him for long. Ole Miss stars Austin Simmons, Deuce Knight and Diego Pounds were among those who posted dedications for their fallen teammate.
Pounds and Knight posted that Adams should rest up now, while Simmons reacted to the news with a broken heart emoji.
Corey Adams played as a defensive end for Edna Karr High School and was rated a three-star player. He was part of the football team that won a state championship last season and was an all-metro defensive player of the year. During his senior high school season, he had 47 tackles, including 15 sacks and four forced fumbles.
A Louisiana native, Adams was also selected in the Louisiana Sports Writers Association Class 5A all-state team and was named the 5A defensive player of the year in 2024. He was also selected by the Catholic League coaches to be the all-district defensive MVP last season. He would have had a bright future ahead of him at Ole Miss.
He has already been enrolled with Ole Miss, arriving at the school back in January as an early enrollee and has participated in the spring practices. The school released a statement that said that the football program “is trying to cope with this tragic loss” and that “our thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
