CFB Insider Plays Down Rumors of Deion Sanders Quitting Colorado Over $30M Demand

Deion Sanders has revolutionized the Colorado Buffaloes football program over the past few years. However, despite his success, there have been plenty of rumors that Coach Prime could leave the Buffaloes for an opportunity with a more prestigious football program or to go to the NFL. Notably, there are rumors that he could leave as a result of a demand for $30 million for incoming freshman classes.

On Wednesday, college football insider Kevin Borba released a new episode of “Locked On Buffs.” In the episode, Borba dismissed rumors that Sanders could leave, citing the possible introduction of a new collective bargaining and salary cap system in college football.

“I think people underestimate how much he loves Colorado, how much he loves the school, and how much power the school gives him, and I think that weighs into it,” Borba said (1:30). “So, let me tell you what I’m talking about. A local Denver radio host said, “Let’s say the quiet part out loud. Deion’s time at Colorado is numbered unless we find a way with $25 million, $30 million freshman classes, unless you find away to put a true cap system in or go to collective bargaining.”

“Basically he’s saying unless Colorado can fork over $25 to $30 million a year for freshman classes, which is what some people are spending, that he’s going to leave Colorado. I don’t think college football is going to continue to stay in this open market. I think there is going to be some kind of collective bargaining.”

Borba went on to explain that it does not make sense for college football and other college sports to continue in their open market system. He spoke about how it is not sustainable because of how much money some of the top schools are starting to need to spend each season to bring in players.

CFB Insider Dismisses Rumors Deion Sanders Could Leave Colorado After Discussing the Possible Job Openings from Other Top Programs

Insider Kevin Borba continued the conversation by discussing the possible job opening for Deion Sanders. He mentioned that another reason Deion Sanders will not leave Colorado is because many of the top programs do not have coaches who are on the hot seat. He discussed schools such as Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Ohio State and Oregon, all of which appear to have stable coaching situations.

Specifically, Borba was going through some of the highest spenders in the college football world. His logic was that if none of the highest spending teams are willing to make a coaching change, Sanders does not have a reason to consider leaving Colorado at this time.
