Is Georgia Bulldogs a contender for the national championship? Paul Finebaum is not so sure. Kirby Smart’s Georgia is always in the discussion of favorites to win the national title. By winning back-to-back national titles in 2021 and 2022, the Bulldogs cemented their status as a powerhouse of the SEC. While they didn’t make the playoffs in 2023, they did make it in 2024.
However, Finebaum believes that the Bulldogs would be wise not to sleep on their laurels. If they do so, they run the risk of following Alabama’s example.
“I know people that firmly believe they’re capable of winning the national championship. I’m not one. You have to be careful, and they’re in that spot that Alabama has been in over the years. ‘Well, they’re Alabama.’ Well, okay. They can still miss the Playoff and lose four or five games.
“I think Georgia right now, because the quarterback situation is a little bit uncertain and there’s some other pieces that are unknown, could end up being a two or three seed like last year, or maybe missing it altogether,” Finebaum said on “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning.”
Paul Finebaum did clarify that he doesn’t say this trying to make the headlines, and that it’s more likely than not that the Bulldogs will make the playoffs. However, there’s a trend that cannot be overlooked. Last year, they lost key games against the likes of Ole Miss in the regular season, and most importantly, Notre Dame in the CFP quarterfinal.
Not only that, but they also lost starting quarterback Carson Beck in the transfer portal. Now they will have to rely on Gunner Stockton, who admittedly showed great poise during the SEC championship victory over Texas when he took over for an injured Beck. However, he’s otherwise untested.

Paul Finebaum believes Nick Saban should take another shot at the NFL
Since Monday, there have been rumours that Nick Saban is preparing to return to coaching. Most analysts think that if this happens, Saban would return to college football.
However, Paul Finebaum believes that the seven-time national title winner should take a second shot at the NFL:
“I want to go back to Nick Saban, if I could divert for a second, because that story came out of here yesterday from one of his former players,” Finebaum said on First Take. “And I know a lot of people thought maybe he would go to LSU. Nick Saban is not going to LSU … I don’t know what you think about this, but I have the perfect job for Nick Saban. 45 minutes from his brand new home in Jupiter, go down to Miami, shake that system up.”
Saban already spent a stint as the Miami Dolphins head coach, between his time at LSU and Alabama. It wasn’t a successful experience, with him having a 15-17 record over two seasons.
Paul Finebaum also stated that his first move with the Dolphins would be something hard for him to do. Get rid of Tua Tagovailoa, who helped him win the national title in 2017 but who, according to the ESPN analyst, no longer fits the NFL franchise’s future.
