Colorado Buffaloes’ head coach Deion Sanders spoke at Big 12 media days this week. While speaking with reporters, he was asked how the Buffaloes will overcome the loss of two-way superstar Travis Hunter and quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
While Coach Prime admitted that they were great players and big losses for the team, he remains confident of the Buffaloes’ 2025 campaign.
“They were great players. We have a better team,” Deion Sanders said. “There’s a difference between great players and a great team. We have a better team, but we can never replace those types of players. It may take three players on offense to replace a Travis Hunter. It may take two players to replace a Shedeur Sanders, and that’s what we brought here.”
Following this claim by Deion Sanders, insider Brian Howell appeared on Denver Sports 104.3 radio on Friday to discuss the comments. He was asked about reasons for the Colorado fans to get excited for next season and how they could be better next year without Hunter and Sanders.
“Yeah, you know he said that same message in the spring as well,” Howell said. “I think a lot of that is Coach Prime’s confidence, which is higher than the confidence of any other human I’ve ever met. They do have good players, they lost a lot of talent. I need to see it before I can believe that they’ll be better without those two guys but they have some quality players.” (3:20)
Howell went on to speak about Jordan Seaton, who he believes is on track to be a first-round pick in the NFL draft. He also mentioned cornerback DJ McKinney and quarterbacks Kaidon Salter and Julian Lewis as players to watch.

Deion Sanders Has To Make a Quarterback Decision Before Week 1
One of the biggest question marks around the Colorado Buffaloes next season is at the quarterback position. With Shedeur Sanders gone, Deion Sanders has two players to choose from: Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter and five-star recruit Julian Lewis.
Lewis is projected to be the QB of the future but is still extremely young, not turning 18 until September. Salter has more experience but is not projected to be a star. So, fans will be watching eagerly to see which quarterback gets the nod at the start of the season.
