‘F*cked his career’, ‘free my brother’ – Former Alabama Star Darius Miles’ Courtroom Video Sparks Divided Reactions Online

The trial date for former Alabama player Darius Miles has been set for Dec. 1 of this year. Miles is accused of aiding and abetting childhood friend Michael Lynn Davis, who, in January 2023, was arrested for shooting and killing Jamea Harris after a night altercation with the latter’s boyfriend.

The former Alabama player was allegedly in the car with Davis when he killed Harris. In the state of Alabama, riding in the vehicle of a person who is committing murder at the time that the crime is being committed carries a capital murder sentence.

Davis was convicted of capital murder in 2025, while Darius Miles has been held without bail in Tuscaloosa County Jail since his arrest on Jan. 15, 2023.

Now, after a video of Miles being escorted off the court after learning his trial date made the rounds online, fans have been reacting to the update.

“I know nothing of this story other than he did not pull the trigger. Parading a video of the defendant in shackles and jumpsuit is a violation of his rights to a fair trial,” wrote one person.

“Fu*ked his career up over some dumb s*it,” said another.

“Lock him up for life. Stupid a*s Clown,” claimed one person.

“How the hell did he get charge with capital murder if his friend was the one who shot his gun and killed her??? makes no sense,” said someone who disagreed with the charges.

“Free him,” simply said another person that sees injustice in the case.

    “free my brother,” posted another.

Damn he threw his hold life away,” said a disappointed fan.

“Pray for him Bama fans,” wrote another.

Prosecutor Paula Whitley on how her office will prosecute Darius Miles

It seems that Darius Miles could get a reduced sentence through a plea deal offered by the prosecution. Prosecutor Paula Whitley, of the Tuscaloosa County District Attorney’s office, informed the press this week.

When asked by reporters what the deal consisted of, Whitley replied:

“I’m not going to discuss that,” she told reporters after court.

According to AL.com, Michael Lynn Davis was offered the same plea deal but refused. Miles has been in jail since being arrested in January 2023 and was removed from the Alabama basketball team that same month. According to the prosecution, Miles owned the weapon with which the crime was committed.

After the hearing on Friday, Whitley was also asked if the case of Darius Miles would be handled any differently than Davis’, to which she replied:

“I’m sure it will be different,” Whitley said. “We have a lot of information and I’m sure we’ll explore every avenue.”

Davis claimed that he acted in self-defense, following an altercation with Harris’ boyfriend, Cedric Johnson. Johnson also fired a weapon that night, hitting Davis on the shoulder.
