The WNBA season is underway, and one of the biggest young stars in the game is former LSU star Angel Reese. The Chicago Sky forward is in her second year in the WNBA after being selected with the seventh pick in the first round of the 2024 WNBA draft. She has quickly become one of the biggest names in professional women’s basketball.
While Reese has become one of the biggest stars in the WNBA, she has also become one of its most divisive players. She is often compared to Indiana’s Caitlin Clark, who has emerged as the biggest star in the sport. This is largely because of a rivalry between the two players during their college days.
While Reese’s stardom is often compared to Clark’s, most experts agree that Clark is the superior player. Clark is one of the best shooters in WNBA history, whereas Angel Reese is known for often missing layups, which pads her rebound stats as a result. On Friday, a clip of comedian Katt Williams was posted on X of him joking about Reese’s shooting percentage.
“In basketball, I’m 5′ 5″ so there’s a whole realm of basketball I can’t experience,” Katt Williams said. “I don’t have any above-the-rim experience. On the other hand, I’m not Angel Reese; I’m 99% on my layups because I can’t afford to miss a layup. My layup is my dunk, you understand me?”

Angel Reese Is Often Criticized for Her Poor Finishing Ability
Angel Reese has emerged as a star in the WNBA, which can be seen on the scoresheet. This season, she is averaging 13.3 points, 13.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game. However, she has a poor shooting percentage, only scoring on 42.4% of her field goal attempts. This is made worse by the fact that she averages less than one three-point attempt per game.
This also leads to criticism of her rebound stats. Reese is one of the best rebounders in the league on paper. However, there are many fans and analysts who say her rebound stats are inflated because she gets so many of her own rebounds after she misses layups. Colloquially, fans call these “mebounds.”
Despite this, Angel Reese has been a good sport, even wearing a Mebounds shirt in early July.

Reese has improved her shooting percentage by roughly 3% from her rookie season.
