Former Iowa Star Caitlin Clark Gets Candid About Boyfriend Connor McCaffery During Injury Break

In Wednesday’s pregame press conference, former Iowa Hawkeyes star Caitlin Clark revealed that she got to spend some time with her boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, during her lengthy injury break.

A reporter asked Clark if she turned to any activities during her rehab. The Indiana Fever guard shared in the interview (via ‘Scott Agness | Fieldhouse Files’ YouTube channel) that she and McCaffery enjoyed playing baseball video games on PlayStation while she was out with an injury.

“I’ve been playing a lot of MLB on PS5 honestly versus Connor, but I haven’t been able to get too many wins. He’s pretty good at it,” Clark said (timestamp 7:07).

Clark added that she got to reunite with her family, which also helped with her recovery.

“I had family here over the Fourth of July, so that was nice and kind of refreshing. Obviously, I think the hardest part is when your body begins to feel really ready to get out there, but you’re not quite there. And I think that was kind of refreshing and a good mental reset for myself,” she said.

Clark returned to action against Golden State on Wednesday after missing the previous five games because of a groin injury. She suffered the injury on June 24 during the closing stages of Indiana’s 94-86 victory over the Seattle Storm.

Clark has been unlucky with the injury bug in her sophomore season. She also missed five games earlier this season after injuring her quad on May 24 against the New York Liberty. It has been a frustrating campaign for Clark, who didn’t miss any games in her rookie season with Indiana.

Caitlin Clark Struggles in Her Return Against Golden State

Caitlin Clark looked rusty in her return from injury, shooting 4-of-12 from the floor in Indiana’s 80-61 loss to Golden State. She finished the game with 10 points, six dimes, five boards, and one steal in 25 minutes. She also committed four turnovers in the heavy defeat.

Two other players scored in double figures for the Fever, who dropped to 9-10. Kelsey Mitchell led all Indiana scorers with 12 points while Makayla Timpson contributed 10 points off the bench.

The Fever got off to a strong start against the Valkyries, building a 23-21 lead after the first quarter. Golden State took control in the second quarter, outscoring Indiana 20-9 to build a 41-32 lead at halftime. The Fever failed to mount a challenge in the second half as they recorded their second-lowest scoring output of the season.
