‘Proud Is an Understatement’: Flau’jae Johnson’s BF Chris Drops Heartfelt Comment As Team USA Brings Home FIBA AmeriCup Victory

LSU star Flau’jae Johnson won her first gold medal in international competition during the 2026 FIBA AmeriCup in Chile. Johnson held her medal proudly after the medal ceremony, while also clutching the FIBA AmeriCup itself. This came after a very closely-contested win against Brazil, with the Americans escaping 92-84 after Brazil led throughout the third quarter.

Soon enough, her boyfriend, LSU football star Chris Hilton Jr., chimed in on his Instagram Stories and expressed how proud he is of the newly minted gold medalist and AmeriCup winner.

“Proud is an understatement @flaujae,” wrote LSU football star Chris Hilton Jr. in his Instagram Stories with a heart emoji.

He shared a post from Johnson herself, relishing her first tournament win on the international stage with Team USA, which finished the tournament undefeated. In the post, the LSU star penned a heartfelt thank you to all who helped her get that first international gold.

“Wow, something amazing I can add to my resume: 1X GOLD MEDALIST 🥇!” Flau’Jae Johnson wrote. First, I want to thank the committee for giving me the opportunity to play the game I love on a national level! Secondly, thank you to my teammates for pushing me and to all the new friendships I made, I’m so thankful for you all! Also, Coach D and Coach Jennie I love y’all, and y’all are forever in my heart!”

“Thank you, @usabasketball! It was an honor to wear those three letters across my chest! Last but not least, thank you, Kara Lawson can’t wait to compete on 12/6 !” she added.

Johnson was mostly quiet during the tournament, letting her teammates get the glory. However, she did explode for 22 points during the quarterfinal against the Dominican Republic. She averaged 4.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and one assist as she did not get many minutes.
