Basketball Analyst Calls Out Indiana Hoosiers for Padding the Schedule With Buy Games

The Indiana Hoosiers will be playing out their first year under a new era in the 2025-26 college basketball season. With newly-appointed head coach Darian DeVries incorporating his expertise and system into the program during this offseason, the Hoosiers have decided to come up with their non-conference schedule already and upload it onto their social media accounts.

Amongst the many individuals in the collegiate hoops world who reacted to their schedule before Big Ten conference play, renowned college basketball analyst and one of the founders of the podcast, “The Field of 68: After Dark”, Jeff Goodman had called the team out by reposting its upload on his X account, calling it out for allegedly padding the schedule in its favor.

“7 of 11 are buy games. That’s too many,” Goodman captioned.

Eight of the 11 nonconference games for the Hoosiers next year will be home games, with their two neutral games and one away affair being against ranked opponents such as the Kentucky Wildcats. Some of the squad’s home games include unranked opponents such as the Siena Saints and the Lindenwood Lions.

With the criticism pointed towards the Hoosiers by Goodman, the storied program is looking to return to the NCAA tournament next season after missing out on it in the last two campaigns. In Mike Woodson’s final year at the helm of the Hoosiers’ coaching staff, which was his fourth, Indiana finished with an overall record of 19-13 (12-8, Big Ten).

As Darian DeVries was introduced as the new head coach for the Indiana Hoosiers for the 2025-26 season and beyond on March 18 of this year, he let out a statement through the team’s official website wherein he speaks about the opportunity given to him by the Indiana Hoosiers Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Scott Dolson.

“This is unquestionably one of the top jobs in America. As someone who grew up in the Midwest loving the game of basketball, I’ve always admired the IU Basketball program for its championship-level success, tradition, and fan support. There’s a passion to succeed at the very highest levels both within the Big Ten and in the NCAA Tournament, and that’s a desire that as a coach I share,” DeVries was quoted as saying.

“On top of that, the alignment is there on a department and university level to make that happen.  I’m excited for this opportunity and am ready to work relentlessly to assemble a staff and a roster that competes for championships,” he concluded.

DeVries now takes on the reins as the new Hoosiers head coach after spending the 2024-25 campaign with the West Virginia Mountaineers.
