Top 2026 Star Sets Sights on Dawn Staley’s South Carolina With Official Visit

McKenna Woliczko, the top 2026 recruit, has scheduled an official visit to the South Carolina Gamecock women’s basketball program, as the program continues to draw talent under head coach Dawn Staley. The visit, which can be seen as a result of Coach Staley’s ongoing success in drawing top talent to the program, which has won three national titles since 2017.

Woliczko’s plan to visit Columbia comes as Staley, who was a Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer, maintains her dominance on one of the nation’s top programs, with an 81.2% winning rate over 475 victories at USC.

Woliczko, who stands at 6’2”, and I come from San Jose, California, will be making an official visit to South Carolina, which was reportedly going to happen between Jul 1-3, as reported by the State.

USC is not the only program in the race of securing Woliczko as reported; Ohio State, Iowa, and Southern Cal, are also on the race to secure the young prospect, but in her June interview with On3 as reported by the athletic in the early hours of today, her interest seems to align with the Gamecock

“I love Dawn (Staley) and the rest of the coaching staff,”. “I think that South Carolina is, when you’re looking to get to that next level, like the WNBA, South Carolina will help you get there. So, I think that’s really cool to think about. They’re just recruiting the best of the best, so then you’re able to play with top players in the country, and that’s what it’s going to be like playing in the pros. I think it’d be cool to figure that out at the college level, instead of being pushed right into that at the pro level.” She reportedly told On3.

A New Era Beckons for Gamecocks Basketball as McKenna Woliczko Visits South Carolina

For her, the opportunity to learn under Staley seems to have stemmed from the program’s growing spotlight across women’s basketball.

The Gamecocks’ recent success in eight SEC tournament titles in the last decade offers a great, compelling draw for the young talent.

Nevertheless, her decision will depend on how she sees herself fitting into the team’s roster. Her addition to the roster, coupled with the program’s dominant history, could further ensure the program remains competitive as next season kicks off.
