‘I Felt Bad for Bronny’ – Carmelo Anthony’ Son Kiyan Speaks on Pressure of Living in a Legend’s Shadow

While Kiyan Anthony is regarded as one of the best players in his class, he also has the added pressure of being the son of an NBA legend, Carmelo Anthony. The eyes of the basketball world have been on him since he was a child, and the attention grew even more as he progressed through high school. Now that he will be entering his freshman year of college, the pressure and attention are only expected to grow.

The four-star shooting guard opened up on this pressure from all around him during Thursday’s episode of Carmelo Anthony’s “7PM in Brooklyn” podcast. He also admitted that he “felt bad” for fellow NBA son Bronny James, who also has all that pressure thrust upon him at such a young age.

“Yeah, I feel like as soon as whoever’s talking, try to connect, that’s when it gets messed up coz it’s a new generation, two totally different people,” Kiyan Anthoy said. “Even though that might be your kid, y’all both going through different things, so like Bronny, I kind of felt bad for him coz that’s my guy.”

“So just seeing, he doesn’t speak a lot, he don’t, he not going to go on the internet and say what he got to say, but like, deep down, behind closed doors, he probably was going through it like you seeing this every day,” Kiyan continued. “You’re on social media, you can’t even scroll twice without seeing a post with your name on it, so like yeah, and he probably talk to his pops about it but at the end of the day he’s nice that boy.”

“He’s not like people trying to say, he not good or he just there for his pops, I think he’s really nice and I think he really has a chance to prosper in the NBA, but they trying to get it to him for him,” he added.

Kiyan Anthony says his celebrity parents still embarrass him

Kiyan Anthony does not just have one celebrity parent in Carmelo Anthony, but two, the other being actress, host and producer La La Anthony. The incoming Syracuse freshman opened up on the “Close Friends Only” podcast with his dad that both of them still embarrass him.

“Oh, they still do [embarrass me.] They post a lot of videos that I don’t want them to post,” he said. “But it’s all good. It’s all jokes. They see me more than anybody, so they got all the funny videos of me, and sometimes they like to troll and post it.”

His parents, even though divorced, are regular sights during his games, with both known for taking time off from their busy schedules just to watch him play, often traveling for hours during road games.
