‘It Always Comeback to Him’: Former NBA Star Throws Shade at LeBron James Over Cooper Flagg Remarks

Former NBA champion Ron Harper, a former teammate of Michael Jordan, was a proud dad on Wednesday, as his son, Dylan Harper, was selected No. 2 overall by the San Antonio Spurs. Meanwhile, LeBron James, a former No. 1 pick himself, made some comments regarding fellow No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg, and Ron Harper was not having it.

During his “Mind the Game” podcast with Steve Nash, James stated that when he was drafted in 2003, the Cleveland Cavaliers did not surround him with a better team until 2006, which was when they finally made the playoffs. The LA Lakers star noted that, unlike him, Cooper Flagg will have Kyrie Irving, Anthony Davis and Klay Thompson with him, as well as head coach Jason Kidd, an NBA legend himself.

This got the former Michael Joedan teammate responding on X:

“It always comeback to him… lol.” Ron Harper tweeted.

The elder Harper called James out for making the Cooper Flagg situation about himself, though it should also be noted that James and Flagg both have had the same careers, except Flagg went to college first, while James went directly to the NBA back in 2023.

This tweet from the elder Harper came as a response to another post on X, which also slammed LeBron for making Cooper Flagg’s achievement about himself.

“Flagg has the benefit…Unlike myself” Once again playing victim. Bron wants to purport that he wasn’t afforded a good team to begin his career. Uhm MJ, Steph, Joker, Giannis were drafted by sh*tty teams, stayed loyal, & won. They didn’t run & make excuses. LeDelicate,” said the tweet.

Like James, Cooper Flagg has had national attention on him since his high school days, leading Montverde Academy to an undefeated national championship run in 2024. Both stars have faced much pressure since high school, and this is where they find common ground.

Dylan Harper Says He Is Better at ‘Everything’ Than Dad Ron Harper

Meanwhile, during his post-draft interview, San Antonio Spurs No. 2 pick Dylan Harper was asked about his dad, Ron Harper, and said he was better at “everything” than him.

“Everything, I mean my dad scored the ball, passed the ball, played defense, but I think I just have the utmost confidence in myself and I’m a little better at everything, except jumping, he might have jumping on me, but besides that, I got myself,” said Dylan Harper.

Dylan Harper has some pretty big shoes to fill, given that his dad, Ron, won multiple NBA championships as part of the legendary 90s Chicago Bulls with Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen.
