You heard it right. Yes, NBA draft prospect Nolan Traore and former Lakers forward Armel Traore are brothers. The confirmation comes from a Yahoo Sports post on Instagram which reads: “This year’s NBA Draft class is LOADED with family connections to past and present stars.”
Both brothers started at Centre Fédéral in France before taking on different paths in basketball. While Armel, who briefly played in the NBA, has taken a path in European professional leagues, Nolan is a highly coveted NBA draft prospect.

Nolan Traore, born on May 28, 2006, is a rising point guard for Saint‑Quentin in LNB Pro A. Unlike his brother’s draft stock from the 2024 NBA draft, Nolan is considered a top 25 prospect by major mock draft boards.
His status rose after he performed well in the Nike Hoop Summit all-star game. Against some of the NBA’s best draft prospects, he scored 18 points to go along with four assists. He was named the Basketball Champions League Best Young Player on May 10.
He has represented France in FIFA youth tournaments. Nolan averaged 13.6 points in the 2022 FIBA U16 European Championship. Then, in the FIBA U18 European Championship, he averaged 8.6 points.
Older brother, Armel, was born on January 23, 2003. He is a 6′9″ small forward who competed in France’s top basketball leagues. He signed a deal with AS Monaco of the LNB Pro A on July 7, 2021. In the early part of the 2022 season, he was loaned out to ALM Évreux of the LNB Pro B.
He played for Metropolitans 92 of the LNB Pro A in the 2022-23 season and ADA Blois of LNB Pro A in the 2023-24 season. With the latter, he averaged 10.8 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 25.5 minutes across 33 games.
Armel went undrafted in the 2024 NBA draft but managed to land a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers. He played for the G‑League’s South Bay Lakers. After being waved on Feb. 5, he joined Spain’s Bàsquet Manresa in the ACB.

Nolan Traore’s elite speed and playmaking would come in handy for any team looking to draft him. He is expected to be picked in the late-to-mid first round.
Most recent mocks position Traoré in the 20–30 range, with the Utah Jazz at 21st and the Atlanta Hawks at 22nd in various projections.
