‘Lay Me’: Dawn Staley Hypes Up Former South Carolina Player Turned WNBA Star Bree Hall

Dawn Staley has some things to say after former South Carolina Gamecock Bree Hall has now found herself a WNBA team, signing with the Golden State Valkyries last week. While she was originally drafted by the Indiana Fever, she did not make the final roster and found herself without a team at the start of the season. This changed when Hall was picked up by the Valkyries.

The former South Carolina defensive stopper got a big boost from Staley, with the coaching legend showing her former player that she is still proud of her and wishes her to do well for her new team in the Bay Area.

“Get buckets and stops @breezyhalll ! Lay me!!! 🥰🥰🥰” Dawn Staley told Bree Hall.

Hall spent the preseason for the Fever, playing only 16 minutes total, and that was against the Brazilian National Team in May. She was soon let go by the team, which was building one around their superstar, Caitlin Clark.

Staley, who had been a big advocate for Hall since her days at South Carolina, had been all praises for the Gamecocks guard, saying that she is an underrated player during a pre-game press conference before the Final Four last April.

“She’s definitely underrated as a defender,” Dawn Staley told reporters. “I think our game sometimes looks at stats. She’s not one that’s going to steal the ball. She’s one that’s going to get your top score shooting at an inefficient clip. And that’s her. That’s her claim to fame.”

Hall has now made her professional debut, getting three points and one rebound during Golden State’s 87-63 win over the Connecticut Sun on Sunday.

Dawn Staley instructs Bree Hall’s new teammate to “take care” of her

Dawn Staley often does not make requests for her former players. However, with Bree Hall coming to Golden State, she had a special request to Valjyries star Laeticia Amihere, who herself is a former South Carolina Gamecock.

Amihere was also new to the Valkyries, only signing with the team just ten days before Hall. However, this did not stop Staley from asking her former player to take care of her South Carolina junior.

“Let’s get it @breezyhalll ! I love this for you!!! @_Theblackqueen_ take care of your @GamecockWBB sister!!! 😍😍😍” Staley wrote in response to Bree Hall’s Valkyries signing.

Amihere helped lead South Carolina to three NCAA Final Four appearances but never won one. As for Hall, she is still out to prove that she belongs in the WNBA in her rookie year.
