Syla Swords is one of the best young stars in women’s college basketball heading into the 2025-26 season. In her freshman season with the Michigan Wolverines, she averaged 16.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.2 steals per game. She emerged as a driving force of the Wolverines’ offense and appears poised to take another step forward into stardom as a sophomore.
However, Syla is not the only member of her family who is a talented basketball player. Her sister, Savvy, is the No. 14-ranked member of the 2026 recruiting class. On Saturday, the Kentucky Wildcats got good news as Savvy committed to join them as part of their 2026 recruiting class. This was reported by insider Talia Goodman.
“BREAKING: Elite 2026 prospect (#9) Savvy Swords has committed to Kentucky. The 6-1 wing chose the Wildcats over South Carolina, Notre Dame, UCLA and Michigan. Massive get for Kenny Brooks and Kentucky,” read the tweet.

Savvy had offers from many top schools, including UCLA, South Carolina, Notre Dame, and Michigan. She chose not to join her sister at Michigan, and instead, grow as a player on her own. She committed to the University of Kentucky and will be expected to be a star there as early as her freshman season.
Savvy and Syla Swords Grew Up in Canada
Savvy and Syla Swords are not from America like many of the other top prospects. Instead, they grew up in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada. The family moved to Long Island, New York, after their father accepted a coaching position with the Long Island Nets in August 2022.
Heading into the 2025-26 season, the Swords sisters are in very different positions. Syla is coming off her freshman season and will be trying to further establish herself as a star in college basketball. She will be trying to help the Wolverines improve on their second-round exit from March Madness this past season.
Conversely, Savvy Swords is heading back to high school for her final season before heading to college. Although she is committed to Kentucky, she will be trying to ensure that she retains her spot as a top prospect with another stellar season. If she continues on her current trajectory, that should not be an issue for her. She will then start with the Wildcats in 2026.
