Will Wade Accused of Factual Inaccuracy as Insider Reveals Ven-Allen Lubin’s Real Contribution to UNC

New NC State Wolfpack men’s basketball head coach Will Wade is once again in the headlines. However, this time, Wade is in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Wade is one of the most prestigious college basketball coaches in sports history, but he is certainly no stranger to controversy.

Now, Wade is currently being accused of “factual inaccuracy.” This comes as a college basketball insider reveals that a recent shot that Wade took against the UNC basketball program regarding Ven-Allen Lubin’s contribution to the program was just flat-out wrong.

Will Wade Got Ven-Allen Lubin’s Contribution To UNC All Wrong

On June 1, former North Carolina Tar Heels forward Ven-Allen Lubin shocked the Tar Heels fans when he committed to arguably one of their biggest rivals, interstate NC State Wolfpack. New NC State head coach Wade only added fuel to the fire when he poked fun at UNC while discussing Lubin in a video that recently surfaced online.

“The other school was too dumb to play him,” Wade said. “When [Lubin] plays 28-plus minutes — he’s done that in 23 games — he averages 15 [points] and eight [rebounds]. I don’t know why the hell they didn’t play him, but we’re gonna play him, so he’s gonna average 15 and eight.”

However, a college basketball insider and NBA Draft insider for Sports Illustrated saw something wrong with Wade’s quote. Kevin Sweeney took to X and shared his statistics on Lubin, which included 28+ minutes in five games at UNC and 24 total games across his college career. The UNC’s record in those games was seven wins and 17 losses.

This past year, Lubin played 28 or more minutes in five games at Chapel Hill. The team won two games and lost three, with him on the court for more than half of them. It was the 6-foot-8 forward’s first and only season with the Tar Heels.

Lubin averaged 8.7 points and 5.5 rebounds per game and shot a respectable 68.4% from the field. His numbers increased when he saw more time on the floor. Wade hopes for a big season from Lubin and promises to give him the time to do more than allow him to do just that.

Before transferring to North Carolina, Lubin spent one season at Vanderbilt and one at Notre Dame. His 2024-24 campaign at Vanderbilt was his career-best. He averaged 12.3 points and 6.3 rebounds in — ironically — 28.3 minutes per game.

NC State added eight players via the transfer portal this offseason. The group includes several standouts, including Darrion Williams, Terrance Arceneaux, Tre Holloman, and Lubin.

NC State is expected to be one of the best teams in the ACC in the 2024-25 season. After all, Wade has had no trouble finding success in his debut campaigns at other programs previously.

In the 2023-24 season at McNeese State, his first with the program, Wade led the Cowboys to a 22-2 overall record, a regular-season conference title, a conference tournament championship, and an NCAA Tournament appearance. The 42-year-old head coach is determined to lead NC State to even greater heights.
