‘I Just Want To Cement Myself in Notre Dame History’ — Jeremiyah Love Breaks Silence on Massive 2025 Goals

Jeremiyah Love is coming off a season in which he led the Notre Dame Fighting Irish’s offense to the national title game, running for 1125 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Love enters the 2025 season as many analysts’ top running back in the country and is projected to be one of the best players in college football. Others have very high expectations for the young running back, but Love has his goals for next season.

Jeremiyah Love has Heisman Aspirations in 2025

In an interview with On3’s Pete Nakos, Love discussed his confidence in winning the prestigious Heisman Trophy.

Love acknowledged that it had been a long time since a running back won it, but seems to have the confidence that he could break that streak next season, saying, “I just want to go out there and win it. That’s a long time, 10 years ago. But maybe this year, I’ll have to make it plus one.”

The Heisman trophy is a lofty goal for Love, but there’s no doubt he has the talent to do so. Love is everything you want in a running back. He’s a physical runner with outstanding contact balance, breakaway speed, and elite elusiveness in the open field. Love is also a competent receiver and a great pass blocker, making him a back that can play every down for the Irish next year.

When a back can stay on the field in key Derrick Henry, which was third-down situations like Love can, it furthers the ability to produce. But how much production would Love need to win the Heisman?

The last running back to win the Heisman Trophy was Derrick Henry, who ran for 2,219 yards and 28 touchdowns for the Alabama Crimson Tide in 2015. I think it’s fair to say that 2,000 yards is the bare minimum that Love would need to win, but even that might not be enough.

Just last year, Ashton Jeanty, who ran for the second-most yards in a single college football season, only came in second for the award. Although Love won’t have to compete against Travis Hunter, that bodes well for him.

Whether Love actually wins the award or not, it’s clear that he expects just as good a season from himself as the media does. That’s a scary mentality for his opponents next year, and it should help him have a fantastic 2025 campaign.
