Massive Texas Lineman Already Drawing NFL First-Round Hype After Turning Heads in Summer Workout

Trevor Goosby, a massive offensive lineman for the Texas Longhorns, is generating major buzz inside the program after a standout showing in recent summer workouts.

His rare blend of size and athleticism has coaches and staff believing he could follow in the footsteps of former Longhorn Kelvin Banks Jr., a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Trevor Goosby Draws Kelvin Banks Jr. Comparisons

Goosby, listed at 6-foot-7 and 309 pounds, stunned Texas staff during summer training when he reportedly clocked 21 MPH on GPS tracking — a staggering number for an offensive lineman.

According to Anwar Richardson of Orangebloods.com, that type of athleticism has some in Austin projecting Goosby as a future first-round pick, just like Banks, who anchored the Longhorns’ line before going pro.

Based on those GPS readings, some believe Goosby could run the 40-yard dash in the 4.6-4.7-second range, according to Richardson — eye-popping speed for a player his size. He’s entering his third year with the Longhorns and is eligible for the 2026 NFL Draft.

However, he needs to stay healthy and get his reps in. Goosby is entering his redshirt sophomore season with just 419 career snaps and two starts. As well, he suffered a minor injury recently, putting a halt to his standout summer.

“Goosby sustained a minor knee injury during the first week of summer conditioning, according to my sources. I was told an MRI was conducted on Goosby’s knee and revealed he had slight inflammation,” Richardson reported.

“One person told me, ‘Trevor is going so hard, we have to slow him down. He’s been a beast out there.’ The injury is not serious.”

Last year, as a redshirt freshman, Goosby made his first two starts and filled in for Banks, including in a crucial win over Texas A&M. He also held his own against Georgia in the SEC championship, showing he could be the next man up on the Longhorns’ offensive line.

“I had the opportunity to play in a couple games, and, you know, just watching [Banks] do his thing and mirroring and imitating what he did, it really helped me be prepared for not only last year, but this year,” Goosby explained in an interview with Inside Texas.

“In Goosby’s 319 snaps last year, he had an overall pass blocking grade from PFF of 80.8, but a run blocking grade of 61.3. He noted run blocking is an area where he wants to improve. That effort will be helped by the weight Goosby’s added in a few years of college strength and conditioning,” wrote RT Young of Texas Insider.

Goosby has added solid weight in the weight room and is now entering his first full year as a starter. Texas opens its season against title favorite Ohio State — a matchup that could set the tone for Goosby’s breakout year and the Longhorns’ playoff push
