Trayvis Hunter’s High School Performance and Potential

For those unfamiliar, Trayvis is following in the footsteps of his older brother Travis, a standout two-way star for the Colorado Buffaloes who claimed college football’s most prestigious individual award in 2024.

While Travis has already made his mark, Trayvis is just starting to turn heads. This announcement signals to recruiters that another Hunter might soon be lighting up college fields.

At 5’7″ and 140 pounds, Trayvis may not yet have the imposing build of his Heisman-winning brother, but his sophomore stats at Effingham County High School prove he’s got game.

In nine games during the 2024 season, he hauled 496 receiving yards and scored six touchdowns. Those numbers clearly indicate a playmaker who can stretch defenses and find the end zone.

His spring game performance on May 16, 2025, further increased the hype, with three touchdowns that showcased his speed, hands, and knack for big moments.

His size might raise questions about durability at the next level, but his production suggests he’s got the skills to overcome that. Comparisons to Travis are inevitable, given their shared bloodline and positions, but Trayvis seems intent on building his reputation as a wide receiver with a knack for explosive plays.

James Madison University Offers Signals of Growing Interest

The offer from James Madison University, based in Harrisonburg, Virginia, is a statement. JMU has built a solid football reputation, transitioning from a Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) powerhouse to the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) in 2022.

The Dukes have a history of punching above their weight, after making a strong impression in their early years at the FBS level following their transition in 2022. For Trayvis, landing an offer from a program with this kind of momentum signals that his talent is catching eyes beyond his home state of Georgia.

This isn’t Trayvis’s first offer, but it’s his first from an FBS school outside the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) circuit. That distinction matters. It shows his appeal is broadening, and programs with national aspirations are starting to take notice.

JMU’s track record of developing talent and competing against bigger schools could make it a compelling option.

Trayvis’s recruitment story kicked off on December 16, 2024, when Tennessee State University, led by head coach and former NFL star Eddie George, extended his first offer. Shortly after, Jackson State University, where Travis began his college career under Deion Sanders, joined the mix.

That offer carried extra weight, tying Trayvis to his brother’s legacy at an HBCU that’s been making waves in recruiting. Georgia State University and Sacramento State also jumped in, giving him diverse options early on.

The JMU offer, though, adds a new dimension. With five schools already in play, Trayvis’s stock is rising fast for a 2027 prospect.
