Will Wade Planning Yet Another Transfer Portal Masterstroke After Darrion Williams’ Commitment

When NC State brought in Will Wade from McNeese State, they were not just looking to hire a new head coach. They were betting big on a proven recruiter with a knack for flipping rosters fast. And no doubt, Wade has not wasted time in doing the same.

In just over a month and a half, he’s turned the transfer portal into his personal playground. Wade has added depth, experience, and flair to the program. In fact, it is nothing short of a complete reboot. But it seems like Wade is not done just yet.

Jon Rothstein Confirms: Will Wade’s NC State Roster Still a Work in Progress Despite Darrion Williams’ Addition

CBS Sports insider Jon Rothstein recently spilled some inside tea that is bound to get the Wolfpack fandom excited. According to Rothstein, the NC State roster is “still not done in terms of its roster construction.” And that comes after they have landed one of the biggest names in the portal.

Not so long ago, the Will Wade squad landed Darrion Williams. He is a former Texas Tech player who was key to the Red Raiders’ Elite Eight run. Williams averaged 15.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.6 assists. He is a 6-foot-8 playmaker who has a smooth stroke and great composure under pressure.

As Rothstein put it, he was a “major focal point” for Tech, and now he’s heading to Raleigh. But that was not the only addition that Wade made this offseason. Wade brought in Tre Holloman from Michigan State. Holloman brings a steady hand and an average of 9.1 points and 3.7 assists. And Rothstein seems to know that something is brewing.

In fact, Rothstein went so far as to say, “You can make a case right now that NC State is in a position to challenge to be a top-three team in the ACC in year one under Will Wade.” That is truly a bold prediction, but not an unhinged one. It is after not just Williams and Holloman, who are new to the Wolfpack.

Will Wade brought along some familiar faces like Alyn Breed and Quadir Copeland, both of whom played under him at McNeese State. Copeland is a 6’6″ point guard with length, vision, 9.2 points, and 4.5 assists. There are also some high-upside names coming in.

Terrance Arceneaux, the former 5-star who played for Houston before battling injuries, is also joining the Wade squad. Then there is also Jerry Deng, the 6-foot-9 stretch forward who shot nearly 40% from deep for Florida State.

As of now, there are seven transfer additions, plus three freshmen and a returning sophomore in Paul McNeil. That is some serious depth. Still, Jon Rothstein might be right that this masterpiece is not done just yet.

Will Wade’s brush is still on the canvas, and with spots left to fill. He’s already built the No. 33-ranked portal class in the nation. Now he’s looking to climb higher. This roster could very well be, as Rothstein rightly put it, “the top-three team in the ACC.”
