Family Ties on the Court? The Buzz Around Karter and Kevin Knox II Grows

Karter Knox made waves in his freshman season at Arkansas, but many fans are just as intrigued by his last name—and the well-known player he’s related to. The 19-year-old guard is the younger brother of Kevin Knox II, a 2018 NBA Draft lottery pick who played his lone college season at Kentucky before being selected ninth overall by the New York Knicks.

Karter recently took his name out of the 2025 NBA Draft and will return to Arkansas for his sophomore season.

Kevin moved from Kentucky to the Knicks, where he arrived from after having quite a good season in 2017-18. In his NBA journey, there have been periods with the Hawks, Pistons, Trail Blazers as well as Warriors.

Although he is most comfortable playing at the power forward spot, the 6’8″ forward also plays at the small forward, the same as his younger brother.

The Knox family has a strong sports pedigree. Their father, Kevin Knox Sr., played wide receiver at Florida State, where he won a national championship before spending time in the NFL. Their mother, Michelle Knox, also attended Florida State. Another sibling, Kobe Knox, plays college basketball at South Florida.

Karter, who was initially prepared to play for Kentucky, switched to Arkansas following John Calipari’s move from the Wildcats to the Razorbacks in the 2024-25 season. He preferred moving to the same place and joined Calipari in Fayetteville, even though he was following the path his brother had already paved.

The 6’6″ small forward was born May 16, 2005, in Riverview, Florida, and developed his game at Tampa Catholic High School before transferring to Overtime Elite Academy in Atlanta. He was considered a top-30 recruit nationally.

In his freshman campaign, Knox helped lead Arkansas to a 22-13 record and a 10-seed in the NCAA Tournament. Over 35 games, he averaged 8.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, and shot 45% from the field, including 32.3% from three and 80.2% at the line.
