There is no question that current Cleveland Browns quarterback and former Colorado star Shedeur Sanders succeeded at playing quarterback despite playing in a struggling offense for much of his time in Boulder.
That is why some insiders recently praised him while criticizing the Colorado offense.

Shedeur Sanders Earns Praise From Browns Insiders
While on an unaffiliated Cleveland Browns podcast called The Dawgs, co-hosts Josh Aul and Jake Burns chatted about Sanders’ time in Boulder and how he succeeded in a tough offense.
Here is what Burns had to say about the former All-Big 12 signal-caller:
“I think the thing that I liked the most is how comfortable he is inside of chaos…That Colorado offense was Shedeur-driven, period…His comfort inside the pocket and delivering the football, making throws in chaos, was really good.”
“Sheduer faced adversity that many quarterbacks of his status in college don’t face: stacked boxes, defensive linemen teeing off on him, defensive backs disregarding any run threat (there really was none), etc.”pic.twitter.com/NCiuRYbfGj

While at Colorado for two seasons, Sanders did his part and then some despite the team posting opposite records (4-9, 9-4).
He combined to throw for over 7,000 yards across 2023 and 2024, along with 64 total passing touchdowns.
The former Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year threw nine touchdowns for every interception in 2023 and completed 74% of his passes last season.
It is no secret that he did his best with what he had out in Boulder, a makeshift offensive line.
What Can You Expect From Shedeur Sanders About the Cleveland Browns?
At this point, Sanders will likely start farther down on the depth chart because of the names in Cleveland’s quarterback room.
Former Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco is back for his second stint with the team and is likely to be the starter coming out of training camp.
Veteran backup Kenny Pickett, like Flacco, was signed this offseason and will likely have a role in the quarterback room, too.
Then come the rookie quarterbacks in Dillon Gabriel and Sanders, who will fight for a roster spot this summer.
It will be interesting to see how many quarterbacks head coach Kevin Stefanski will want to keep on the final roster once the preseason is over.

Of course, he could put Sanders or Gabriel on the practice squad if he decides that another position group needs more depth.
Regardless, Sanders has a long way to go if he wants to carve out a starting role in his NFL career.
But with what he showed during his collegiate career playing for his father, he has plenty to build off of.
