WR Jeremiah Smith is set to be the top target in Ohio State’s offense next and is primed for an even bigger season as a sophomore. The top wide receiver in the country is even expected to be a Heisman Trophy contender.
While his college career is still relatively fresh, Smith has arrived, and he already feels established in the Buckeyes squad. Under normal circumstances, Smith is supposed to be just breaking in, but there’s nothing normal with the talented wide out. In a recent interview, he was seen hyping up the Buckeyes’ receiving corps.
Buckeyes WR Jeremiah Smith Gives Props to Ohio State Freshman
Jeremiah Smith is only a sophomore, but he’s already an integral part of the Buckeyes’ offense. Speaking to “Eleven Warriors,” Smith revealed he thinks freshman Quincy Porter is the next receiver to break through.
“Quincy Porter (is a) big, tall receiver, just like me,” Smith said. “Came in, kept his head down, just working. I’m happy to see his future at Ohio State. Probably gonna be the next one up, for sure.”
Before Smith, no other wide receiver in Ohio State history has entered his second season with a 700-yard campaign already to his name. Still, Smith recorded a 1,300-yard season with a national championship to add to it.
Porter certainly made his presence felt in the spring this year, and he expects to play early in his career. “I can do it, and anybody can do it,” Porter said. “It’s just putting the work in and knowing that it’s possible.”
Porter was ranked a five-star prospect in the 247Sports composite rankings, the No. 5 wide receiver and No. 23 player in the 2025 class. He made the jump from four-star to five-star status in late January following his impressive showing and performance at the All-American Bowl.
As a senior at Bergen Catholic (Oradell, New Jersey), Porter caught 57 passes for 969 yards and 11 touchdowns. Porter had 133 catches for 2,624 yards and 38 scores in four years with the Crusaders.

“I like just how gritty he was, how competitive he was, and he’s showing toughness, again, making those contested physical catches,” Head Coach Ryan Day said of the freshman. “So if he can keep playing like that, he’s going to find himself playing a lot of football this year.”
Porter will join a department of freshmen wide receivers that includes Smith, Phillip Bell, De’Zie Jones, and Bodpegn Miller. If he’s as good as Smith says he is, he could help the Buckeyes repeat as champions.
