With the 2025 NBA Draft nearing, the Brooklyn Nets are positioned to make a significant move using the No. 8 pick, one of four first-round selections they hold. Most projections and expert mock drafts link the team to Duke freshman Kon Knueppel, a forward praised widely for possessing the “best shooter in the draft.”
Despite higher expectations for their pick, Brooklyn landed at No. 8 and appears set on targeting Knueppel, whose elite shooting ability has made him a standout prospect among analysts evaluating the upcoming draft class.

2025 NBA Draft: Nets Target Sharpshooter Kon Knueppel With Top-10 Pick
Initially aiming for a higher selection in hopes of drafting consensus top prospect Cooper Flagg, the Brooklyn Nets have pivoted their strategy with the No. 8 overall pick. Their attention has shifted to Duke freshman Knueppel, an elite wing known for his perimeter accuracy and advanced offensive skill set.
With floor spacing and scoring efficiency among Brooklyn’s biggest concerns, Knueppel’s profile aligns closely with the team’s immediate needs.
Knueppel, who is 6 feet 6 inches and 217 pounds, posted substantial numbers in his lone season at Duke. He averaged 14.4 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game and shot 47.9% from the field, 40.6% from beyond the arc, and 91.4% from the free-throw line.
“Kon Knueppel has the type of consistent shooting stroke that could mesmerize during predraft workouts,” Bleacher Report’s Jonathan Wasserman wrote. “While shooting remains the No. 1 selling point, the pick-and-roll passing, driving efficiency, and IQ plays create more versatility and perceived upside.”
Though Knueppel sat out of athletic testing and shooting drills at the NBA Draft Combine due to an ankle injury, his skill set remains a draw for evaluators. According to his agent, the injury occurred before the event.
Despite the setback, Knueppel’s ACC Tournament performance elevated his draft stock—he averaged 21.0 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 4.7 assists without Flagg in the lineup, leading Duke to a conference title and earning Most Outstanding Player honors.
Pro Football Sports Network noted, “They should be focused on drafting the best player available in this spot. Knueppel may not be a flashy selection, but he has the tools to be a reliable contributor early in his career…Widely regarded as the best shooter in the draft, he combines deep range with a lightning-quick release and soft touch.”

Knueppel’s high basketball IQ, unselfish passing, and ability to attack closeouts make him more than just a catch-and-shoot threat. Comparisons to Cameron Johnson, Kevin Huerter, and Corey Kispert highlight his potential as an innovative, efficient wing who complements stars with spacing and decision-making.
Brooklyn has already met with Knueppel and plans to work out soon. Knueppel could enter a meaningful rotation spot, but Cam Johnson’s role was uncertain. Flagg’s endorsement—calling him a “safe pick”—only reinforces the Nets’ interest in a player poised to contribute from day one.
