5-Star QB Jared Curtis Breaks Silence on Georgia Commitment, Oregon Fallout, and More

Jared Curtis, the No. 1 quarterback and No. 2 overall prospect in the 2026 class per On3, committed to Georgia earlier this month. The 6’4”, 225-pound star from Nashville Christian School in Tennessee chose the Bulldogs over a competitive field that includes: Oregon, Ohio State, and Alabama.

In an interview with Rusty Mansell of Dawgs HQ, conducted shortly after his commitment and discussed in a May 20, 2025, segment with On3’s Phillip Dukes, Curtis opened up about why Georgia won his pledge, how close Oregon came to flipping him, and his relentless focus on building a championship-caliber 2026 class.

Jared Curtis Details Georgia Commitment and Mike Bobo’s Impact

Curtis’ decision to commit to Georgia hinged on a deep connection with offensive coordinator Mike Bobo, whose persistent recruiting and proven track record tipped the scales. “Mike Bobo never let up,” Mansell noted in his On3 discussion, emphasizing Bobo’s role in securing Curtis.

He echoed this sentiment, telling Mansell that Bobo’s clear vision for his development was pivotal. Bobo, who coached Aaron Murray to Georgia’s all-time passing record of 13,166 yards and also guided Matthew Stafford to the No. 1 overall pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, presented a detailed plan tailored to Curtis’s dual-threat style.

“He showed me how I’d fit in their offense, how he’d get me ready for the next level,” Curtis said, per Mansell’s interview.

Oregon’s Close Call in the Recruiting Battle

Oregon was a formidable contender in Curtis’s recruitment, nearly swaying the five-star QB. Head coach Dan Lanning, a former Georgia assistant, who has transformed the program into a recruiting powerhouse, boasting a 12-2 record in 2024 and a Fiesta Bowl appearance.

Curtis visited Eugene twice in 2024 and was drawn to their high-octane offense, which amassed 4,134 passing yards and 34 touchdowns last season. “There was a time when he thought he was going to Oregon,” Mansell revealed in the On3 segment, projecting how tight the race must have been.

He praised Lanning’s energy and Oregon’s innovative scheme, telling Mansell, “Their offense is explosive, and Coach Lanning’s building something special.” Despite the hurdles, Georgia’s fit proved decisive for him. “It was really close,” Curtis admitted to Mansell.

Curtis’s commitment elevates Georgia’s 2026 class to elite status, joining four-star linebacker Anthony Davis and others. His recruiting efforts could land Cantwell, creating a class rivaling Georgia’s 2018 haul (No. 1, featuring Justin Fields). “He’s so ready to get to Athens,” Mansell said, underscoring Curtis’s enthusiasm.
