How Mike Shula Is Rewiring LaNorris Sellers for a Breakout 2025 Season at South Carolina

LaNorris Sellers is set for a breakout 2025 season as Mike Shula reshapes South Carolina’s offense around the rising QB’s evolving skill set and decision-making.

You wouldn’t be wrong to say South Carolina’s offensive future depends on one rising star—LaNorris Sellers. After a strong first season, this young quarterback is now going through a full transformation under offensive coordinator Mike Shula.

Head coach Shane Beamer sees the change, too. He says Sellers, a hometown talent, is already leaving his mark on the team. And this shift in the Gamecocks’ offense isn’t just about making things easier. According to the coach, it’s about building a system that wins.

Mike Shula’s Strategic Overhaul Positions LaNorris Sellers for a Breakout 2025 Season

South Carolina’s offensive coordinator, Mike Shula, is working hard to help quarterback LaNorris Sellers improve for the 2025 season. Shula is focusing on teaching Sellers how to read defenses before the snap, make faster decisions, and play more efficiently. Shula isn’t just tweaking the playbook—he’s transforming how the 19-year-old approaches the field.

And it’s already working. During a recent appearance on “Always College Football with Greg McElroy,” head coach Shane Beamer praised Shula’s influence. Beamer highlighted Shula’s experience as a former SEC quarterback and NFL coach, saying it’s been a game-changer for Sellers.

“You’re exactly right about Mike Shula,” he explained. “He’s been awesome. He’s made [Sellers] better already. They’ve really attacked that. Just the timing of drops and knowing protections and when you’re picked up and when you’re not protected and when you have to get rid of the ball and where to go.”

In 2024, Sellers had a strong year. He threw for 2,534 yards with 18 touchdowns and 7 interceptions, and he rushed for 674 yards and 7 touchdowns. His ability to run and extend plays helped a lot. But Beamer wants Sellers to get smarter with his decisions, not just rely on instinctively scrambling.

“I’m all for those, but I’d love the, you know, the quickness and the decision-making and things like that to be even more efficient, which it will be,” Beamer said.

With Shula’s coaching, South Carolina has adjusted parts of its offense to help Sellers and the team play smoother. Beamer added, “We haven’t changed the terminology, but we’ve certainly, you know, tweaked some things to hopefully make it, you know, even more efficient and easier for LaNorris and the rest of the offensive guys going forward.”

As Sellers enters his second year as the starter, all signs point to a potential breakout season. With Shula guiding him and Beamer backing him, the stage is set. If Sellers continues to improve, South Carolina could have found the right direction in the coming season.
