The Penn State Nittany Lions have utilized the transfer portal to build up their 2025 wide receiver room.
It is very reminiscent of some of Nick Saban’s final teams at Alabama.

James Franklin’s Aggressive Receiver Portal Moves Echo a National Title Formula
Blue White hosts Thomas Frank Carr, Nate Bauer, and Sean Fitz recently chatted about Penn State’s current wide receiver room.
The likes of Kyron Hudson (USC) and Devonte Ross (Troy) are two pass-catchers who have transferred to play for head coach James Franklin this Fall. These veteran additions could greatly impact a wide receiver room that struggled to find production last year.
Other than Harrison Wallace, who is returning for his senior season, Penn State did not have another wide receiver eclipse 700 receiving yards. With 1,200-yard tight end Tyler Warren now in the NFL, the Nittany Lions will need someone to emerge through the air in 2025.
Penn State’s 2025 Air Attack is Key
While Penn State has arguably the best running back duo in the country in Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen, future NFL quarterback Drew Allar is going to need help with the passing attack. The additions of Hudson and Ross should help out down the stretch.
Remember, last season, the Nittany Lions were stifled by the likes of Ohio State and Notre Dame. The rushing attack and the defense are both top-notch in State College, but the missing ingredient for the team is that element of electricity through the air.
Also, Allar decided to come back this season because he believed in the potential of this offense. There is unfinished business for Franklin, Allar, and Co., and the wide receiver room is the x-factor.
Much like Nick Saban’s teams at Alabama a couple of years ago, the combination of transfer and talented wide receivers could make this team a title contender.
